Job summary

Aurora Engineering AB in Eskilstuna, Sweden seeks a Senior Embedded Software Consultant to lead architecture and implementation of an advanced ECU platform. You will work close to the MCU, RTOS, and hardware, delivering robust boot, drivers, and secure software updates.

Independent and technically hands-on, you will drive cross-layer platform decisions, support functional safety, and mentor developers while ensuring real-time reliability and deterministic performance.

Qualifications

• Extensive professional experience in low-level embedded software and ECU platform development.
• Deep understanding of microcontroller architectures and hardware initialization.
• Strong experience with ARM Cortex-M 32-bit MCUs.
• Experience with RTOS-based and bare-metal systems and deterministic real-time behavior.
• Proven ability to port or migrate embedded software between MCU, RTOS, or platform environments.
• Strong experience with bootloaders, startup, firmware update, and recovery concepts.
• Ability to work with memory layout, linker configuration, and resource constraints in embedded systems.
• Strong hands-on debugging with JTAG/SWD and trace tools.
• Advanced programming skills in C and C++, including RT targets.
• Experience with Python for tooling, automation, testing, or code generation.
• Ability to translate complex architectures into robust implementations.
• Experience in safety-critical reliability and traceability environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and implementation of low-level ECU platform software.
• Develop software near the MCU including boot software, startup, device drivers, and RTOS integration.
• Analyze existing architectures and evolve them for new MCU/RTOS platforms.
• Identify risks and system-level consequences of design decisions.
• Port software between hardware/RTOS environments and platforms.
• Optimize real-time behavior, scheduling, interrupts, and CPU loading.
• Design startup, update, boot, and recovery mechanisms.
• Contribute to platform cybersecurity including secure boot and firmware updates.
• Troubleshoot HW/SW interactions and verify on target hardware.
