Airahome is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Platform team. You will help build and scale a data platform used by multiple teams to power products, decisions, and day-to-day operations.

The role blends hands-on engineering with architectural influence to create scalable data solutions. You will work across pipelines, data serving, governance and observability, partnering with domain teams to enable self-service analytics and data products.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team.

As Aira grows, more teams rely on data to build products, make decisions and run their day-to-day operations. One of our biggest challenges is helping teams move fast without creating unnecessary complexity for everyone else.

This role sits right in the middle of that challenge.

You'll help build, improve and scale the platform that teams across Aira depend on. Some days you'll be working on pipelines and platform capabilities. Other days you'll be discussing architecture, helping teams solve problems or figuring out how to scale ways of working that made sense when we were smaller.

The role combines strategic thinking, stakeholder management and hands-on engineering. If you enjoy building things while also influencing how an organisation works with data, you'll feel at home here.

What you'll do

• Build, improve and maintain Aira's data platform
• Develop and operate batch and streaming data pipelines
• Work with domain teams to establish and evolve data serving pipelines
• Help teams own and manage their data assets through our Data Mesh approach
• Enable analytics engineers and domain experts to build data products, self-service analytics and data science solutions
• Make it easier for teams to build, run and maintain data products
• Help teams avoid solving the same problem in ten different ways
• Improve reliability, governance, observability and platform performance
• Contribute to architectural decisions and the long-term direction of the platform
• Explore new technologies and approaches when they solve real problems

Who you are

You have several years of experience within Data Engineering and have worked with production systems at scale.

You've probably seen different ways of solving similar problems, whether that's through product companies, consulting or working across multiple teams and domains. Your background might be in data engineering, platform engineering, backend development or infrastructure.

You're comfortable moving between implementation details, architecture discussions and conversations with stakeholders.

You understand that building a successful platform isn't only about technology. Different teams have different priorities, constraints and ways of working. A big part of the role is helping us find solutions that work well across the organisation while keeping things practical.

You're comfortable explaining technical trade-offs, helping teams understand why decisions matter and building support around a shared direction.

Sometimes you'll help teams move faster. Sometimes you'll push back on an approach that creates unnecessary complexity or long-term problems. You're comfortable doing both.

You enjoy creating structure where it's needed, but you're pragmatic enough to know when simplicity is the better option.

Most importantly, you care about building foundations that will still make sense a few years from now, not just getting something out the door this sprint.
