Job description

As pioneers and global leader, Hiab is ambitious to write forward our success story, inspiring and shaping our industry. The world in which we operate with our class-leading products, intelligent services and innovative digital solutions is constantly changing.

Together, we keep everyday life moving to build a better tomorrow.

Purpose of the position

The electrification of road transportation is in full swing, and HIAB needs to develop energy efficient products suited for battery operated vehicles. In addition, we have set ambitious targets for CO2 reduction, where use phase emissions play a dominant role. A quick shift to electrification is key to the transition to a more sustainable transportation system. We are already offering a new electric hybrid crane that combines the strength from battery power - drive - motor with the strengths of the hydraulic cylinders. But this is only the beginning, to further expand our electric offer and be at the forefront of decarbonization in our core markets and industries, we are strengthening our resources for electrification and setting up a new team within R&D.

You and your colleagues will have the mission to develop new technology and products ranging from electro-hydraulic power units, battery packs and electromechanical actuators in line with what a developing business will require. While “power packs” and distributed hydraulic systems are fairly established, there needs to be technological advances in the field of electric actuators to make them viable in heavy applications at the very core of HIAB’s loader crane business.

Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Designing the system and communication of the electrical drive line
  • Integration to our control system
  • Motion control and drive line system logic
  • Work with system optimization, conduct analysis and simulations to optimize performance and efficiency, and development of necessary calculus and analytic tools
  • Drive pre-development activities, work in product development projects and maintain our systems
  • Stay up to date with the latest advances in electromechanics and apply them to improve HIAB’s products
  • Test and verification of new solutions
  • Collaborate with sourcing to find suitable suppliers
  • Interact with stakeholders - colleagues in R&D, sourcing, product management and production.
What you’ll need to succeed
  • Master of science or higher experience preferably within electrical vehicle, integrated system or mechatronics
  • Development and engineering of industrial products
  • System integration and CAN-bus communication and programing
  • FW programing
  • Motion control and hardware in the loop development
  • Power drive line integration
  • English (mandatory)
  • Swedish (optional, admirable)
Competence and skills
  • Motion control, control algorithms, FW, Matlab/Simulink/HIL
  • System integration, CAN-bus programming
  • Electric motor, hydraulic pump, inverters and battery-system
  • Driven and self going person that finds solutions
  • Team-players that are open and curious towards teammates
  • Open for challenging task - comfortable working in early phase development and systematically tackle new challenges
  • Combine creativity with methodical approach depending on situation
Place of Work and travels
  • Place of work: Stockholm or Hudiksvall
  • Visits to other sites, upon project needs.
  • Estimated travel: 2 times every month.
You will be part of

As part of a global organization, you will gain access to an extensive network and exciting development projects. At the same time, we value personal development and the close collaboration that characterizes our local operations. Cooperation, commitment, quality, and order are the guiding principles we work by. We are constantly working to maintain a pleasant and enjoyable work environment for our employees with opportunities to grow in your role and develop it further.
