Job summary

Karolinska Institutet invites applications for a PhD position focused on Development and Implementation of Advanced HIV-1 reservoir diagnostics for a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist. The PhD is four years full-time, embedded in the ANA Futura Laboratory at Campus Flemingsberg and linked to the clinical microbiology lab.

You will study HIV-1 proviral DNA, use bioinformatics and phylogenetics, and contribute to biobanking and immunological assessments, with dedicated supervision and mandatory

Qualifications

• Strong interest in HIV research, molecular virology and translational biomedical research.
• Good analytical skills and ability to interpret experimental and quantitative data.
• Excellent ability to speak, read and write in English.
• A degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science or an equivalent degree.

Responsibilities

• Investigate the HIV-1 reservoir in clinical samples from people living with HIV-1.
• Establish and optimize workflows for analysing HIV-1 proviral DNA to characterise sequences, diversity, subtype and mutations.
• Perform bioinformatics and phylogenetic analyses; participate in biobanking and immunological assessments (e.g., FACS, ELIspot).
• Engage in doctoral education courses and seminars within BioLabX and Karolinska Institutet.
