Background

Saab is currently in a situation of extreme growth of the business. The division Naval Combat Systems under Saab Surveillance is expanding the production, and the production mode is intended to go from an Engineer to Order environment to eventually go to Make to Stock production with a big increase in production volume. An Engineer to Order environment that is rapidly changing creates issues within a lot of different functions of the organization. One of those functions is the Saab Production Planning function, which deals with the operational and long-term production planning in the business using an MRP/CRP methodology. A key aspect of making MRP function is accurate and reliable lead-times within the production. Given the current state of the business, this is both difficult and critical.

Description of the master thesis

This Master Thesis aims at examining how to secure, consistently update, and maintain a high level of data quality for production lead-times during a massive ramp-up and shift of production modes in the business. To achieve this, you might take a mixed methods approach, both analyzing the quantitative data of lead-times per product and interviewing production engineers, designers, production staff, production planners, and several more.

Your profile

This Master Thesis is suitable for 1 to 2 students. You are at the end of your production, industrial management, or supply-chain related education (either as a civilingenjör or as a free-standing master program) and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP. Having taken any classes regarding MRP is a bonus but not a requirement; you will learn a lot during the thesis as well. Our working language is Swedish, so fluent Swedish is required.
