Job description

Enabling the future of Biopharma Purification

Biologic medicines are transforming treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases, and rare conditions. Yet purification, a critical step in their manufacturing, still relies on decades-old technology, creating a bottleneck that slows the development of new therapies and limits patient access to existing ones.

Nyctea exists to remove that bottleneck. We are developing a patented electrical purification technology, originating from Chalmers University of Technology, that can make biologics manufacturing more efficient and significantly less resource-intensive. Our technology is validated through partnerships with global pharma companies, and key patents are approved across major markets. Now we need to turn proven science into a product. That is the challenge at the heart of this role.

The Role

You will be the technical project lead and project manager for Nyctea’s product development, responsible for both the hands‑on technical leadership of the engineering team and the project discipline needed to bring a product to market. You will work alongside the CEO, who holds the system architecture and product management responsibilities, and together form the core of the product development organisation.

Technical project leadership:
  • Lead and coordinate the engineering team day-to-day: driving actions, delegating tasks, and ensuring technical deliverables are completed on time and to specification.
  • Generate and maintain Design History File (DHF) deliverables as the product progresses through development stages.
  • Translate product requirements into engineering work packages, and ensure subsystems integrate into a coherent whole.
  • Act as the technical point of contact toward customers during demos, installations, and on‑site support.
Project management:
  • Plan and drive the overall project: timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and budget tracking.
  • Coordinate internal and external teams, including contract manufacturers and suppliers, to deliver on schedule.
  • Monitor project spend and product cost against targets, and flag deviations early.
  • Report progress and decisions to the steering group and stakeholders.

As the company grows, a dedicated quality lead will join the team. Until then, you will work closely with the CEO to establish the documentation and quality frameworks needed for commercial deployment.

Who You Are

This role requires both domain expertise and project management experience. Project management skills alone are not sufficient, you need to understand the technical and regulatory landscape of the product you are building.

We expect you to have:
  • An engineering degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.). Relevant backgrounds include biotechnology, mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, or similar.
  • Experience bringing medical hardware or other life science products to market
  • Hands‑on experience leading technical teams and managing product development projects, planning, budgeting, and driving deliverables
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non‑technical audiences, and comfort in an international, multicultural team
  • Fluent English. Swedish is a plus but not a requirement
It is a plus if you also bring:
  • Experience with GMP, EMC, or other regulatory and standards frameworks
  • Familiarity with biopharma manufacturing processes
  • Experience in a startup or scale‑up where you built processes and structures yourself

If you recognise yourself in most of this but not all, we still encourage you to apply.

What We Offer
  • A central role in shaping a product and a company at a pivotal stage
  • Validated, patent‑protected technology, the scientific risk is behind us, the product challenge is ahead
  • A mission that connects your daily work to patient access and environmental sustainability
  • Based at AstraZeneca BioVentureHub in Gothenburg, an open innovation hub where emerging life science companies work alongside AstraZeneca’s R&D, with access to world‑class infrastructure, scientific expertise, and a collaborative network across pharma, deeptech, and AI
