Job summary

Biotage, located in Uppsala, Sweden, seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead complex instrument development from concept to product launch within our life‑science portfolio. You will coordinate R&D, Product Management, Quality and Operations to ensure successful delivery.

This role requires at least 10 years in instrument development projects, strong hardware and software understanding, and proven leadership with excellent communication across multidisciplinary teams in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading complex product development projects.
  • Instrument development projects experience in Life Science, MedTech or regulated tech industries.
  • Solid technical understanding of hardware and software development.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Structured and pragmatic approach with ability to create engagement and momentum.
  • University degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • PM certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Excellent English communication skills, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex instrument development projects end-to-end across the product lifecycle.
  • Coordinate hardware, software, test, verification, mechanics, electronics and systems engineering teams.
  • Drive project planning, execution, risk management and resource coordination.
  • Ensure delivery on time, within scope and budget.
  • Facilitate cross-function communication and senior management decisions.

Senior Project Manager – Instrument Development
Lead the development of technologies that advance human health

At Biotage, we develop innovative technologies that support scientists around the world in drug discovery, analytical testing, and life science research. To strengthen our Product Development organization in Uppsala, we are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager who is passionate about leading complex instrument development projects from concept to product launch.

This is an opportunity for a senior project leader who enjoys working close to technology, collaborating with highly skilled cross‑functional teams, and driving projects that combine hardware, software, mechanics and systems engineering.

Your role

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading cross‑functional product development projects within our instrument portfolio. You will work closely with R&D, Product Management, Quality, Operations and other key stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

You will:

  • Lead complex instrument development projects throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams covering hardware, software, test and verification, mechanics, electronics and systems engineering.
  • Drive project planning, execution, risk management and resource coordination.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Facilitate communication and decision‑making across functions and with senior management.
  • Contribute to continuously improving project management practices and development processes.
We are looking for someone who has
  • At least 10 years of experience leading complex product development projects.
  • Proven experience managing instrument development projects within Life Science, MedTech or other regulated technology industries.
  • A solid technical understanding of both hardware and software development.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A structured and pragmatic approach with the ability to create engagement and momentum.
  • A university degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Formal Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Experience working in regulated environments such as ISO 13485 or similar quality systems is highly valued.
