Job description

Stena Teknik is entering the next phase in its digital transformation. As the technical centre of excellence for the Stena Shipping and Offshore group, we support a diverse global fleet with engineering, technology, and practical innovation that improves safety, sustainability, and operational performance.

Across the group, we are building a Common Vessel Digital Architecture and a shared data foundation to enable AI, analytics, operational insight, and next-generation vessel design. To make this ambition a long-term capability, we are looking for a Lead Maritime Data Architect who can turn complex operational reality into structured, trusted, and future‑ready vessel data.

This role is central to defining how data will be handled across today’s fleet and tomorrow’s vessels.

Sounds interesting? Let´s get in touch!

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Lead Maritime Data Architect, you will take ownership of how vessel, fleet, and OT data is structured, governed, and used across the Stena group. Your work will support shipping and offshore operations within Stena Line, Stena Bulk, Stena Drilling, Northern Marine, and Stena RoRo, each with distinct operational profiles, vessel types, and technical landscapes.

You will operate in an environment where data maturity is still developing, making your ability to introduce clear standards, structure, and long‑term thinking critical. A core part of the role is to establish group‑wide data specifications and requirements for future vessels, ensuring that data is designed correctly from the outset and can support operational insight, analytics, and AI throughout the vessel lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Own and structure the vessel data landscape to ensure accurate, reliable, and trusted ship, fleet, and OT data
  • Define and maintain data models, naming conventions, metadata structures, and documentation standards
  • Establish data quality frameworks, including validation rules and automated checks
  • Translate operational needs into usable data structures for fuel, energy, navigation, equipment, and performance insights
  • Collaborate closely with Project Teams, OT engineers, integration teams, vendors, and vessel personnel to secure reliable ship‑to‑shore data flows
  • Contribute to the Common Vessel Digital Architecture through specifications, guidelines, and reference models
  • Define data requirements and expectations for vendors and newbuild projects
  • Raise overall data maturity by making vessel data easier to find, understand, trust, and reuse
  • Drive the transition from a basic data layer toward a more semantic, standardised, and use‑case driven data foundation

Through this role, Stena will establish a clear and consistent data foundation for both existing and future vessels.

You report directly to Stena Teknik’s Head of Digital Transformation and are based at Stena Teknik’s office in Gothenburg, Sweden.

ABOUT YOU

To succeed in this role, you bring the ability to translate real operational behavior into clear, consistent, and reliable data structures. You are motivated by roles where you can shape direction, influence standards, and create lasting impact across complex technical and operational environments.

Through experience from data‑ or digitally driven transformation initiatives, you understand that progress is achieved not only through strong technical solutions, but also through communication, collaboration, and the ability to build trust. You are comfortable taking a leading role in defining how data should be structured, governed, and used, while engaging stakeholders across engineering, operations, IT, and management.

We believe you bring:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or similar field
  • Several years of experience from a similar role within data architecture, data management, or data governance
  • Experience from industries that manage large, complex data volumes, such as maritime, automotive, aerospace, energy, or advanced manufacturing
  • Experience from digital or data‑driven transformation initiatives in operational or industrial environments
  • Solid understanding of OT systems, industrial data flows, or complex technical systems
  • Practical experience in data modelling, metadata management, and data quality frameworks
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar tools for data transformation and quality monitoring
  • Experience working across complex, multi‑vendor technical landscapes with strict data and naming standards
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence, align, and build trust across different organisational levels
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
