Job summary

The European Spallation Source in Lund, Sweden is seeking an Instrument Associate for the DREAM instrument. You will join a multidisciplinary team preparing the instrument for first user operation and beyond, collaborating with engineers, technicians and scientists to deliver reliable performance.

Responsibilities include safety documentation, SOPs, maintenance planning, and helping set up experiments and sample environments for user studies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the sciences.
  • Proven ability to work in cross‑department teams with scientists, engineers, technicians, and external collaborators.
  • Excellent English communication, both spoken and written.
  • Experience testing and operating complex equipment in large facilities.
  • Experience with experiments and user support at large-scale facilities.
  • Experience programming (Python, Matlab, C++ or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Join a team preparing a neutron instrument for first user operation and beyond.
  • Collaborate with instrument associates, engineers, and technicians across ESS.
  • Prepare safety documentation, standard operating procedures and operation manuals for an instrument.
  • Support testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the instrument.
  • Coordinate with technology groups (Choppers, Detectors, Motion Control) and support teams.
  • Assist in user experiments, including setup of sample environments.
