Job summary

Valmet seeks an experienced HSE Engineer to strengthen our global customer projects and site work. Based in Gothenburg, Karlstad, or Sundsvall, you will deliver HSE services on EPC and high‑risk projects and lead site safety activities.

You will train project teams, audit subcontractors, investigate incidents, and help develop our HSE and social responsibility practices. Fluency in English and Swedish and a strong safety mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years in HSE and global projects.
• Lead complex cross‑functional projects in a global environment.
• ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 knowledge; internal audits.
• Fluent English and Swedish communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide project HSE engineer services on EPC and high‑risk projects.
• Offer on‑site safety supervision for major shutdowns and short projects.
• Train and coach project teams on HSE and social responsibility.
• Coordinate HSE partner networks and sub‑contractor audits.
• Investigate incidents and lead serious incident investigations.

As an HSE Engineer you will have an opportunity to secure health, safety, environmental and social responsibility implementation and development of our Global Customer projects and construction sites around the world. We are seeking a dynamic team player to join our team.Key responsibilities:Provide project HSE engineer services in nominated EPC and high-risk EPS sales and delivery projects, including readiness for ad hoc and pre-planned site presence typically 1 to 4 weeks.Provide on-site safety supervisor services in nominated large shutdown work and short projects.Train and coach Valmet project and site organizations, including partners contracted as supervisors for site work, on Valmet project and site HSE management and social responsibility process and practices.Identify and coordinate the HSE partner network.Arrange sub-contractor HSE Days.Participate in sub-contractor audits and lead site HSE audits.Ensure HSE incidents on customer sites are investigated and communicated and lead serious incident investigations.Contribute to developing Valmet project and site HSE management and social responsibility process and practices.To succeed in this role, you will need:Minimum 5-7 years of experience working in HSE and several years of experience in multi-cultural customer projects and site HSE work.Experience in leading complex, cross-functional projects in a global environment.Technical competence in customer site HSE management practices including risk identification and mitigation, especially in EPC projects.Relevant academic degree, for example in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or other scientific fields. Professional HSE qualifications such as NEBOSH, CSP, or similar will be considered an asset.Incident investigation skills.Knowledge of multi-site ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 management system standards, as well as internal auditing skills.Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swedish. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office-Suite, Power BI, M-Files, Sharepoint and Teams.You are an HSE role model with integrity and a strong moral compass, which is the fundament of the position.
