Job summary

Volvo Cars is seeking a Function Designer for driver-vehicle interaction within the AD/ADAS Functions group in Gothenburg. You will translate user needs into safe, structured functional designs and collaborate with software, safety, legal and UX teams to ensure high-quality deliverables.

You’ll lead design work from use cases to detailed descriptions, define interfaces, and maintain documentation, while aligning with VPDS and regulatory requirements to secure a robust driver experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of experience in function design, system design or a similar role.
• Experience in requirements engineering and functional design, from use case to function description.
• Good understanding of software development and experience with data analytics.
• Knowledge of VPDS and system safety.
• Ability to work with stakeholders across different technical areas.
• Nice-to-have: experience from AD/ADAS or driver understanding systems, safety-critical systems, or vehicle data flows.

Responsibilities

• Lead function design work in the driver-vehicle interaction domain, covering both HMI and interior perception function design from use cases to detailed function descriptions.
• Define and manage functional requirements and interfaces.
• Create and maintain required function documentation, such as function descriptions and requirement specifications.
• Work closely with software developers to support implementation and clarify functional intent.
• Ensure alignment with VPDS, system safety and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to cross-functional alignment between UX, ADAS and ConX.
