Job summary

LevelUP HCS Sweden is seeking a fully qualified Financial Controller to oversee the branch's financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting and regulatory compliance within the Nordic region. The role requires extensive CIB knowledge, strong accounting expertise, and solid experience with Swedish regulations.

You will manage daily financial activities, lead statutory and regulatory reporting, and drive automation and process improvements across cross-border teams.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant with significant experience in financial accounting, financial control, and financial management within banking or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of Swedish regulatory requirements applicable to an EU banking branch.
  • Extensive experience within Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), including exposure to derivatives, loans, and capital markets instruments.
  • Proven experience managing the full financial reporting cycle, from daily P&L reporting through to annual statutory accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of tax reporting and compliance, including Corporation Tax, VAT, Pillar Two, and Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR).
  • Experience working across geographically dispersed teams and within complex financial control environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain robust, compliant, and accurate financial management for the branch, ensuring adherence to Swedish and EU regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee all day-to-day financial operations, including transaction processing, reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • Support strategic financial planning and ensure alignment with Head Office financial objectives and reporting requirements.
  • Produce and review daily P&L statements, performing variance analysis and identifying financial risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare management information (MI) relating to revenue, portfolio activity, and key performance indicators, providing meaningful analysis and commentary.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate and improve finance processes.
  • Lead financial and regulatory reporting, including annual statutory accounts, quarterly group reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and statutory filings with the Swedish Companies Registration Office.
  • Manage finance-related regulatory reporting and tax compliance, including Corporation Tax, VAT, Pillar Two, and Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR).
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and strategic financial plans, providing detailed analysis of financial performance, trends, and projections.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for tax reporting and compliance, advising on legislative changes and their financial impact.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal stakeholders and manage complex financial transactions.
  • Collaborate with onshore and offshore finance teams to ensure consistency, efficiency, and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial controls, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Assess the accounting and financial implications of changes to legislation and financial reporting standards.
  • Support ad hoc finance projects as required by senior leadership.

Job description

The Sweden Branch forms part of a large EU bank and has been established to further develop the bank's activities across the Nordic region.

The Financial Controller is a critical on-site finance role responsible for overseeing the branch's financial operations and ensuring the integrity of its financial reporting. The successful candidate will have significant experience in a similar position, with strong technical accounting expertise, a deep understanding of Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) products and business lines, and extensive knowledge of Swedish financial regulations.
