Overview

Job Title: Field Engineering Manager

Client: Pioneering Green Steel Production Company

Assignment Type: Annually Renewable Contract Position

Location: Boden, Sweden

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Kintec are currently partnered with a pioneering Green Steel Production Company who are constructing a plant in Northern Sweden that will produce Green Steel – Green Steel production emits up to 95% less CO₂ than conventional steel production.

Job Description: Key responsibilities and tasks (not limited to): You will need to be present at site to coordinate with the site teams and engineering teams to ensure the teams align. You will work together with the team to maintain a clear view of field activities in relation to design and ensure deviations or non-conformities are reported. As Field Engineering Manager, you must understand the different challenges of the team members and assist them in having the proper conditions needed to deliver their respective tasks and, if needed, help them escalate issues that arise.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise field engineering personnel across the different projects.
  • Coordinate daily operations, allocate resources effectively to ensure issues are promptly addressed and resolved.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams to ensure alignment between engineering and construction and facilitate communication between field teams and Project Management.
  • Provide technical support and on-site solutions to resolve issues relating to engineering design, specifications and construction.
  • Monitor and support EPCM’s construction work and contribute with problem-solving to ensure field solutions and decisions are robust and in line with client interests.
  • Regularly update project management team on milestone progress, issues and blockers.
  • Monitor and track RFIs, ensuring RFIs are answered timely.
  • Oversee field activities to ensure construction is executed according to scope, quality and technical specifications.
  • Monitor engineering/project progress and proactively address risks, delays, or technical issues.
  • Ensure field activities comply with health and safety regulations, promote safe practices, and promptly address any safety concerns.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Accountability / Authorization
  • Direct reports: Yes, the role will require line management over assigned engineering team members including hiring, performance management, task allocation, disciplinary actions, time management, and expense approval.
  • Budget management: Yes, as allocated as part of the project.
  • Decision-making authority: Yes – Independent decision-making on engineering solutions within project scope; escalation required for changes impacting cost, schedule, or scope.
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • PMP certification or equivalent is desirable.
Experience
  • We are looking for applicants that have previous engineering experience in an industrial plant environment and strong knowledge of field engineering practices, construction methods and project management. You will be able to adapt to, and excel in, a dynamic business environment and should be a problem solver who can work with many stakeholders to drive cross-functional teams to a common goal.
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience with steel manufacturing processes or similar heavy industries.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Previous experience with European and/or Swedish standards and regulations.
Competences and Skills
  • Ability to work with data and basic data management tools; capable of sharing updates on progress. Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to stay calm in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; able to manage several complex work streams with high variation and uncertainty.
  • Proficiency in project management and engineering design tools.
  • Familiarity with ISO, EN, and other engineering standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
