Job summary

Beyond Gravity in Linköping is seeking a design engineer focused on wiring harnesses for space structures. You will design and route electrical harnesses in CATIA, define interfaces, and support PLM/ERP lifecycle tasks while ensuring compliance with requirements and manufacturability.

The role requires a B.Sc. in aerospace or mechanical engineering, strong CAD skills (CATIA V5), and ability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • Must have a B.Sc. in Aerospace, Mechanical or related engineering field.
  • Mechanical design experience in aerospace or equivalent industry.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawings (CATIA V5 preferred).
  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex design tasks.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing standards and configuration control.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and their constraints.
  • Good communication skills, curiosity, decision-making, and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Experience with space structures, mechanisms or components is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and route electrical harnesses and cabling in CATIA, ensuring compliance with system requirements, installation constraints, manufacturability, and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain harness assemblies, define interfaces with systems and structures, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead change management, ensure traceability, and coordinate part lifecycle activities with PLM/ERP.
  • Prepare design justifications and support validation activities, including requirement traceability and design reviews.
  • Participate in NRBs, propose technical solutions, support corrective actions, and perform basic root cause analysis with guidance.
  • Support FAI activities and operator training; provide on-site production support to prevent non-conformances.
  • Prepare project-specific technical documentation and contribute to internal and customer deliverables.
  • Maintain traceability between engineering inputs, outputs, and requirements; communicate project status in meetings.
  • Support bidding and proposal activities; provide inputs to ECPs and CCNs.
  • Coach interns, students, and junior engineers.
  • Task Management: report milestones, manage risks, and monitor budgets and resources.

Our Crew

The engineering team in Linköping consists of around 90 people, including engineering managers, design, analysis, systems, and verification engineers. We work in an international environment, closely collaborating with our customers as well as with other Beyond Gravity sites across Europe and the USA.

This Design Team is responsible for executing mechanical design activities for space structures, mechanisms, and components. Our work includes CAD modeling, the creation of detailed drawings, and the development of design documentation. We support change management processes and actively participate in design reviews, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and full compliance with technical requirements.

Your Mission

We are currently looking for a person with wiring harness design as their primary focus.

  • Design and route electrical harnesses and cabling in CATIA, ensuring compliance with system requirements, installation constraints, manufacturability, and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain harness assemblies, define interfaces with systems and structures, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead change management, ensure traceability, and coordinate part lifecycle activities with PLM/ERP.
  • Prepare design justifications and support validation activities, including requirement traceability and design reviews.
  • Participate in NRBs(Non Conformance Review Board), propose technical solutions, support corrective actions, and perform basic root cause analysis with guidance.
  • Support FAI(First Article Inspection)activities and operator training when required; provide on-site production support to prevent non-conformances.
  • Prepare project-specific technical documentation and contribute to internal and customer deliverables.
  • Maintain traceability between engineering inputs, outputs, and requirements; clearly communicate project status in meetings.
  • Support bidding and proposal activities; provide inputs to ECPs (Engineering Change Proposal) and CCNs (Contract Change Notice).
  • Coach interns, students, and junior engineers.
  • Task Management:Report to technical leadthemilestone advancement. Raise awareness on risk and blocking points. Understanding budgets, cost awareness, and resource allocation.
Your Story

Must have:

  • B.Sc. in Aerospace, Mechanical or other engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Mechanical design experience in aerospace or equivalent industry.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawings (preferably CATIA V5).
  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex design tasks.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing standards and configuration control.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and their constraints.
