Job description

This website is operated, hosted and managed by Williams Lea Limited, 3 Savannah Way, Leeds LS10 1AB, United Kingdom.

Salary: £25,750 per annum plus 10% shift allowance (£28,325 total) plus company benefits

Contract: Full Time, permanent

Shifts: 40 hours per week, working 4.00pm to 1.00am, either Wednesday to Sunday or Tuesday to Saturday.

Williams Lea seeks a Proofreader to join our team!

The Proofreader position is responsible for reviewing legal documents for grammar and verbiage corrections. The primary function of this role is to identify and correct spelling, grammar, and verbiage errors in complex legal documents, ensuring accuracy and clarity.

The ideal person will need to have excellent grammar and English skills; this would suit somebody who has experience as a Proofreader or somebody who has worked in a role that demonstrates these skills, but enthusiasm and an interest in this field is key.

Key responsibilities

  • Correct spelling, grammar and verbiage errors in a complex legal document.
  • Detect formatting and compositional errors in Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.
  • Check corrected proofs of legal documents against mark-up for comparison and quality assurance.
  • Undertake a high-quality proofreading and document checking service for legal and marketing collaterals including format checks – house and non-house style including defined terms checks.

Personal attributes

  • Experience proofreading, preferably in a legal, banking, or large corporate environment, is desirable.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is desired.
  • Familiarity with legal timekeeping or job tracking systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Capable of handling sensitive and/or confidential documents and information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional and effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Proven customer service skills to build, maintain, and enhance customer relationships.
