Job summary

Google Data Center Facilities Technicians design and operate complex electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. You inspect, maintain, and repair data center equipment, including generators, UPS, electrical distribution, and climate control.

You will ensure safety compliance, manage outages, and collaborate with contractors to deliver reliable, cost-efficient operations at Google Data Centers in Sweden.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
  • 5 years of generator experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and use OSHA-required PPE.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and varying shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on generator sets.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical failures using diagnostic tools and manuals.
  • Execute major and minor repairs on engines, alternators, panels, and electrical systems.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to data center facilities systems and equipment.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new generator equipment.

  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment, the required use of OSHA standard safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

  • Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of generator systems used in a data center environment (e.g., engines, alternators, control panels, and electrical systems, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components).

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a part of the Facilities Technicians at Google Data Centers, you will operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions, including heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, fire systems, buildings, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems.

In this role, you're at the forefront of environmental practices, bring the ideas of data center engineers to life and develop creative approaches to reduce operational cost while improving efficiencies. You troubleshoot problems, do repairs on infrastructure equipment, supervise, and support contractors to deliver quality service to Google. You ensure a safe working environment for you and your colleagues by adhering to safety standards and doing risk assessments to determine preventive measures.
