Mercur Solutions AB is hiring a Cloud Engineer to join the Infrastructure team in Stockholm. You will operate and maintain the production environment behind our SaaS platform across Windows and Linux, with VMware/OpenStack, and Azure services.

The role emphasizes networking, VPNs/IPSEC tunnels, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code to keep systems reliable, secure, and high performing in production. A hands-on, incident‑driven posture is essential.

Qualifications

• Several years' hands-on experience administering Windows Server and Linux in production.
• Experience with OpenStack or similar private cloud/IaaS platforms.
• Familiarity with production Java applications.
• Strong networking and firewall knowledge incl. VPNs and IPSEC tunnels.
• Solid scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and IaC experience.
• Experience with Datadog or similar observability tools.
• Experience with IaC tools e.g., Ansible, Terraform, or Bicep.
• Experience with Jira or similar ticketing system.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor production infrastructure for the SaaS platform.
• Manage Windows and Linux VMs in production environments.
• Administer and optimize virtualization infrastructure (VMware/OpenStack).
• Manage client VPN access and IPSEC tunnels; work with firewalls.

About the role

We're looking for a Mid/Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Infrastructure team of 6 and help operate and maintain the production environment behind our SaaS platform. You'll work across a hybrid environment of Windows and Linux virtual machines, supporting applications built on .NET and Java, running on top of VMware and OpenStack, with some services also running in Azure.

Our environment relies heavily on client VPNs and IPSEC point-to-point tunnels for remote and site connectivity, so extensive networking and firewall skills are essential.

We manage our infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code, so solid coding/scripting skills are necessary for this role. This is a hands‑on operational role focused on keeping our platform reliable, secure, and performing well in production.

What You'll Do

• Maintain and monitor production infrastructure for our SaaS platform, ensuring high availability and performance
• Manage and troubleshoot both Windows and Linux virtual machines in production environments
• Administer and optimize virtualization infrastructure on VMware and OpenStack
• Manage and troubleshoot client VPN access and IPSEC point‑to‑point tunnels, working with firewalls and network infrastructure
• Support the deployment, monitoring, and performance of .NET and Java applications running in production
• Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code to provision, configure, and manage our environment
• Respond to and resolve incidents, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence
• Perform routine maintenance tasks: patching, updates, backups, and capacity planning
• Log, track, and update work using our ticketing system; collaborate with development teams to support releases and deployments into production
• Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and automation to reduce manual operational work
• Maintain documentation for infrastructure, processes, and runbook

What We're Looking For

Must-haves

• Several years' hands‑on experience administering both Windows Server and Linux environments in production
• Experience with OpenStack or comparable private cloud/IaaS platforms
• Familiarity supporting production applications built on Java
• Solid networking and firewall knowledge, including experience with client VPNs and IPSEC site‑to‑site tunnels
• Strong troubleshooting skills across networking, OS, and application layers
• Comfortable owning incidents in a production environment with high uptime requirements
• Solid coding/scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) and experience with Infrastructure as Code
• Experience with Datadog or similar observability platforms
• Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Bicep
• Experience working with Jira or a similar ticketing/issue‑tracking system

Nice‑to‑haves

• Experience with NixOS
• Experience with container‑based environments (e.g Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with Microsoft Azure (or another public cloud) in a production setting
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Familiarity with firewall platforms (Clavister, Fortinet)
• Relevant certifications (VMware VCP, Linux, Microsoft/Azure, OpenStack, or networking certs like CCNA)
• Prior experience in a SaaS or always‑on production environment
