Job summary

A new-build Grand Soleil 72 LC is seeking a Captain, or ideally a Captain and Cook/Stew couple, to join a relaxed private family programme from early January 2027.

The successful candidate will join in Italy for the final stages of the build, including handover and commissioning. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong First Mate ready for their first command, or an established Captain seeking a smaller, more relaxed long-term programme.

CAPTAIN OR CAPTAIN/COOK-STEW COUPLE

NEW BUILD 72ft SY

A new-build Grand Soleil 72 LC is seeking a Captain, or ideally a Captain and Cook/Stew couple, to join a relaxed private family programme from early January 2027.

The successful candidate/s will join the yacht in Italy for the final stages of the build, including handover and commissioning. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong First Mate ready for their first command, or an established Captain seeking a smaller, more relaxed long-term programme.

Personality and fit are particularly important. The family is looking for someone safe, capable and self-motivated, but equally relaxed, personable and easy to have around. They should be happy working independently, taking ownership of the yacht and managing the programme without requiring extensive day-to-day direction.

If joining as a couple, the second position will be a flexible Cook/Stew role. The family is self-sufficient, so the cooking and service requirements will be informal and relatively light.

The first season will include commissioning and sailing in Italy, followed by Montenegro, Malta and Sardinia, with the possibility of attending the Grand Soleil Cup in Porto Cervo. The yacht will then cruise out of the Mediterranean and north along the Atlantic coast towards Guernsey.

Longer term, the yacht will be based primarily in Guernsey for family day sailing, weekends and trips to the Scilly Isles, France and the Atlantic coast. Maintenance periods are likely to take place in Southampton.

This is not a racing or charter-style programme. The focus is on relaxed family cruising, good company and enjoyable sailing.
