Job summary

Techrytera AB is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate critical distributed services for millions of users. You will collaborate across engineering teams to tackle complex scalability, reliability, and security challenges and own services from design to production support.

Ideal candidates have deep Java expertise, strong multithreading experience, and hands-on work with REST APIs, CI/CD, and modern tooling.

Qualifications

• Comfort with documenting technical designs, discussing architecture and stakeholders.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs, Cassandra, Redis, Memcached, and Netty.
• Knowledge of reliability and operational excellence practices.
• Understanding authentication and authorization concepts.
• Experience creating customer-facing web services.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems scalability and performance.
• Production system operations experience.
• Ability to explain design choices in detail.
• Five years+ backend development experience with Java and modern concurrency models.

Job Description
We are seeking a Backend Engineer with experience in backend development to design, build, and operate critical distributed services for millions of users worldwide, meeting strict security, privacy, reliability, and scalability requirements. You thrive amid rapidly changing priorities and roadmaps and see opportunity in uncertainty.

Working closely across engineering teams and technical domains, you will solve distributed systems challenges, improve availability, reliability, performance, and scalability, and develop reusable frameworks and platform capabilities for internal and external users. You will contribute to architecture and design, substantially influence technical decisions and implementation, and own services throughout their lifecycle, including production support. You value collaboration, ownership, accountability, and engineering quality.

Required Qualifications:

• Comfort with documenting technical designs, discussing architecture, communicating with stakeholders with and without technical backgrounds, questioning assumptions, and putting forward alternative solutions.

• Practical experience across several of these technologies and practices: automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs, Cassandra, Redis, Memcached, and Netty or comparable frameworks.

• Knowledge of engineering practices concerning reliability and operational excellence.

• Knowledge of the concepts underlying authentication and authorisation.

• Experience creating web services intended for customers.

• A strong grasp of how distributed systems work, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency models, and performance tuning.

• Experience with the operation of systems deployed in production.

• Ability to explore and explain the reasoning behind technical design choices in detail.

• In-depth Java expertise supported by strong experience working with multithreading and concurrency, memory semantics under the Java Memory Model, garbage collection behaviour and tuning, allocation management and performance optimisation, the java.util.concurrent package, modern concurrency models including Virtual Threads, and architectures based on reactive principles.

• A background in backend development spanning around five years or more.

It is considered an advantage if you have experience with cryptography and security protocols, PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF, Certificate Authorities, machine learning platforms and algorithms, GitHub, Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, or Spinnaker.
