A leading technical university in Stockholm seeks an Assistant Professor in Material and Structural Mechanics to conduct research and teach. The KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in material and structural mechanics. The subject is advanced characterization and modeling of ecologically, socially and economically sustainable metallic materials, in particular steel for improved structural integrity.
The position includes research and teaching as well as related administration. The research will be carried out within the framework of a fellow position within the WISE program, involving development of a comprehensive research activity at a high international level. The assistant professor is expected to teach and supervise bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students.
The assistant professor will have opportunities to develop independence as a researcher and may gain accreditation that could enable other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance). The position is eligible for promotion to associate professor under Chapter 4, Section 12c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Qualified candidates have completed a doctorate or equivalent scientific competence. Candidates who meet these qualifications within seven years prior to the application deadline will be prioritized; other candidates may be considered for particular reasons such as illness, parental leave, or similar circumstances.
The assessment criteria for appointment as an assistant professor at KTH are stated in KTH’s appointments procedure section 1.3 and apply to the employment profile laid down.
Of highest importance: the applicant’s scientific expertise demonstrated through publications, conference activity, research collaborations, and other scholarly activities (e.g., peer reviewer or expert assignments).
Of second-highest importance: experience from a postdoctoral visit or equivalent research/development work in industry or other organizations; interest in pedagogical development; interest in leadership, collaboration with external stakeholders, and awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues with a focus on gender equality.
Also important: administrative skills.
For promotion to associate professor, provisions according to Section 1.2.4 of the KTH Appointments procedure apply. Ability to teach in Swedish is a merit given great importance in promotion applications.
