Job summary

If Insurance in Stockholm seeks an AI Engineer to help shape AI-powered experiences across APIs, MCPs, and Data Products. You will work with product managers, architects, and engineers to build scalable solutions that enable discovery, access, and value realization for developers, employees, partners, and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor- or master-level degree in a technical field (CS/SE/IT/Data & Analytics) or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• 1–2 years applying AI engineering in production.
• Proficiency in English for technical and business collaboration.
• Proficiency in C#, TypeScript, or Python.
• Experience in cloud-native development (Azure or similar).
• Familiarity with AI agents, APIs, MCPs, data products is a plus.

Our mission is to make APIs, MCPs and Data easy to discover, understand, and use. To support that journey, we are looking for an AI Engineer who is excited about building the next generation of AI-powered experiences.

About The Role

You will help shape AI-powered experiences by enabling AI agents, APIs, MCPs, and Data Products to create value for developers, employees, partners, and customers.

Working hands-on with modern AI technologies, agent frameworks, APIs, and platform capabilities, you will build scalable solutions that enable teams across If to discover, access, and use digital capabilities more effectively.

As part of a cross-functional team of Product Managers, Architects, Engineers, and business stakeholders, you will turn emerging AI opportunities into practical solutions with measurable business impact.

• Help evolve our Data Discovery & Experience or API Platform capabilities.
• Design and develop AI-powered platform capabilities using AI agents, APIs, MCPs, and Data Products.
• Improve how APIs, MCPs, and Data Products are discovered, understood, and used across If.
• Help ensure secure access using open standards.
• Apply platform engineering and product thinking to solve real business problems.
• Contribute to AI literacy and AI-enabled ways of working.

About The Team

Depending on your background, interests, and experience, you may join either the Data Discovery & Experience team or the API Platform team.

The Data Discovery & Experience team works closely with business and technical stakeholders to improve how APIs and Data are discovered, understood, and used as Products across If.

The API Platform team focuses on building and evolving common platform capabilities that enable secure, scalable, and efficient API consumption and integration across If and with external partners.

Both teams use agile ways of working and collaborate closely with stakeholders across business and technology domains.

This position is also a part of a larger agile Tribe responsible for providing common API and IAM capabilities that enable If's business to grow in a secure, scalable, and compliant manner. We support both internal teams and external partners through technology, products, processes, training, and governance.

You Also Have

• Relevant university degree, preferably within Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data & Analytics, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience is also valued.
• Experience in the insurance industry or another regulated industry, such as banking, finance, healthcare, telecommunications, or the public sector.
• At least 3 years of experience in software engineering and modern application development.
• At least 1-2 years of practical, hands-on experience applying AI engineering practices in production or real-world applications.
• Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, TypeScript, or Python.

Experience from one or more of the following areas is considered a strong advantage:

• AI Agents, Agentic Workflows, and Agent Frameworks such as LangGraph, Pydantic AI, Microsoft Agent Framework, or similar technologies.
• MCP (Model Context Protocol), including providing AI systems with context, tools, and access to enterprise capabilities.
• Large Language Models (LLMs), Small Language Models (SLMs), prompt and context engineering, evaluation, and model orchestration.
• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector search, embeddings, and semantic search technologies.
• APIs, API Platforms, integration technologies, and secure access using open standards, as well as Data Products, Data Discovery, Analytics Platforms, and Developer Experience capabilities.
• Cloud-native application development using Microsoft Azure or similar cloud platforms.
