Job summary

Lund University, MAX IV, Accelerator operations, seeks an Accelerator Operator Assistant (part-time). You will join the Operations Group to operate the MAX-IV accelerators and ensure beam conditions for beamlines and physicists.

The role is shift-based with 24/7 coverage. Qualifications include a Bachelor's in physics or engineering or relevant experience running large facilities; ability to proactively fix issues; enjoy programming in Python; strong English skills; willingness to work evenings,

Responsibilities

• Operate the MAX-IV accelerators according to the weekly plans.
• Maintain nominal beam conditions during delivery periods as much as possible.
• Document issues and actions as they arise.
• Handover to incoming operators on shift changes.
• Act as on-site radiation safety officer when required.

Accelerator Operator Assistant (part-time)

Lund University, MAX IV, Accelerator operations

As a member of the Operations Group you will work as an operator of the three MAX IV accelerators to provide the required beam conditions for our beamlines and accelerator physicists.

The role of Accelerator Operator assistant consists entirely of shift work, with operator coverage needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Your tasks will include:

• Operation of the MAX-IV accelerators according to the agreed weekly plans
• Maintaining, as far as possible, the nominal beam conditions during delivery periods
• Documenting issues and actions as they arise
• Handover to incoming operators on shift changes
• Act as the on-site radiation safety officer when required

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications:

• You have a Bachelors degree in physics or an engineering discipline and/or have experience in the operation of large, complex facilities.
• You have an ability to take the initiative to fix problems before they arise, and to develop solutions to allow the smoother running of our accelerators.
• You enjoy programming, and are comfortable developing with Python.
• You perform well as a shift worker, and are willing and able to work during evenings, nights, as well as during the weekend.
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.

The following are considered merits

• Previous experience in the operation of accelerators in synchrotron facilities is a considerable advantage
