About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Lead Engineering Manager to provide technical leadership across telecommunications networks supporting utility‑scale renewable energy and power transmission infrastructure. This highly specialised role focuses on the design, integration, commissioning, and optimisation of telecom networks that enable secure, reliable, and low‑latency control, monitoring, metering, and data exchange across utility‑scale solar PV plants, wind farms, battery energy storage systems, hybrid renewable energy plants, power transmission systems, and substations. You will play a pivotal role throughout the project lifecycle from conceptual design to commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Telecom Engineering and Network Design
- Lead the engineering and design of telecommunication systems for power transmission networks, substations, and renewable generation plants.
- Develop telecom network architectures to support plant control, SCADA, protection systems, metering, and operational communications.
- Specify and select key telecom equipment including fibre optic systems, multiplexers, Ethernet switches, GPS/GNSS systems, and time synchronisation equipment.
- Perform telecom budget calculations and determine equipment ratings and specifications.
- Collaborate closely with Protection and Control teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Communication Protocols and Control Systems
- Define communication architectures supporting critical plant and grid infrastructure.
- Work with industry‑standard protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870‑5‑101/104, Modbus TCP/IP, and GOOSE messaging.
- Interface with systems including SCADA, RTU, PPC, EMS, SAS, protection relays, PMU, and SCMS.
Network Performance and Cyber Security
- Design low‑latency and highly reliable telecom networks supporting fast control loops and operational stability.
- Ensure compliance with cyber security standards and project‑specific security requirements.
- Implement resilient communication architectures with redundancy and fail‑over capabilities.
- Support time synchronisation solutions using IEEE 1588 PTP, IEEE C37.238, IRIG‑B, GPS, and GNSS technologies.
Testing, Commissioning, and Troubleshooting
- Lead telecom Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and provide technical guidance during commissioning.
- Support cold and hot commissioning activities across utility‑scale projects.
- Conduct and oversee fibre link certification, network redundancy and fail‑over testing, PTP/NTP stability testing, WAN connectivity verification, cyber security validation, and communication protocol testing.
- Diagnose network and system performance issues using industry‑standard diagnostic and monitoring tools, including packet capture and network analysis software.
About You
- 15+ years of experience in telecommunications or control systems within the power or energy sector.
- 5+ years of technical leadership experience.
- Deep expertise in telecom systems for substations, transmission networks, and renewable energy plants.
- Strong understanding of fibre optic networks, multiplexers, Ethernet switching, and time synchronisation systems.
- Experience with utility‑scale solar, wind, BESS, or power transmission projects.
- Familiarity with leading telecom OEM technologies and products.
- Excellent troubleshooting and commissioning capabilities across complex communication networks.
Qualifications
- B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering or a related discipline.
- M.Tech in Communication Systems preferred.
