Team Lead, Network & Voice

The role is a developing management position responsible for guiding a team of network engineers and specialists to design, implement and maintain a robust and efficient network infrastructure. It combines technical expertise, managerial and project management skills to ensure the team’s success in delivering high-quality network solutions that meet business needs. The Senior Team Lead Network Engineering also drives collaboration, sets technical standards and mentors team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Foster a positive team culture, encourage professional growth and promote collaboration.
• Collaborate with the team to design and architect network solutions, including LAN, WAN, data centre and cloud networks.
• Ensure network designs align with business requirements and industry best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to team members during the design, configuration and implementation of network solutions.
• Review and approve network designs and configurations.
• Oversee the deployment, configuration and maintenance of network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and wireless controllers.
• Lead network‑related projects, establish project plans, allocate resources and ensure that projects are completed on time and within scope.
• Optimize network performance by analysing traffic patterns, implementing QoS measures and making configuration adjustments.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including systems administrators, security teams, application developers and business stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively to ensure smooth project execution and knowledge sharing.
• Establish and enforce technical standards, best practices and governance processes for network engineering.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and security policies.
• Foster skill development, encourage continuous learning and promote a culture of innovation.
• Manage relationships with network equipment vendors, service providers and technology partners.
• Evaluate vendor offerings and negotiate contracts.
• Ensure network solutions meet security requirements by implementing effective security measures, access controls and monitoring systems.
• Plan network capacity and scalability to accommodate business growth and evolving needs.
• Drive the achievement of business goals through effective use of IT resources.

Qualifications

• Solid expertise in networking concepts, protocols, architectures and services.
• Proficiency in configuring and managing complex network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and wireless controllers.
• Knowledge of advanced network protocols and technologies such as BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, QoS and security protocols.
• Good documentation and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Project management, resource allocation and budget management abilities.
• Strong problem‑solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
• Developing people‑management capabilities with a focus on collaboration and fostering innovation.
• Ability to manage and lead technical teams.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
• Network Administration certification (Azure, Google, Amazon) preferred.
• CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA) beneficial.
• Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE) or equivalent certifications preferred.

Required Experience

• Solid experience in network engineering, including progressive roles in design, implementation and leadership.
• Experience working in a networking environment.
• Experience with network security.
• Solid WAN and LAN experience.
• Experience with wireless equipment, protocols, standards and wireless LAN design.
• Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, etc.) and network automation concepts is a plus.
• Relevant experience leading and managing a networking (or similar) engineering team.
