Job summary

Dr Sulaiman AlHabib Medical Centers is seeking a Senior Specialist Anesthesiologist to deliver high-standard clinical care in anesthesia, assess and treat patients, and support consultants in complex cases.

The role includes daily rounds, patient documentation, supervision of staff, and active participation in departmental quality improvement and hospital policy adherence.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Medical School recognized by Medical Council.
• Completion of internship and residency programs.
• Post-graduation qualifications in the specialty.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical/surgical care for admitted patients in department or under consultant.
• Manage assigned clinics per rota approved by Head of Department and Medical Director.
• Perform initial assessment, order investigations, diagnose, treat, and reassess with consultant privileges.
• Prescribe or administer therapy and other medical care under supervision of Consultant, monitor patient condition.
• Undertake daily rounds during shifts for all admitted patients in the department.
• Assist consultants in rounds and in assigned surgical procedures.
• Document complete medical records accurately and update progress notes per policy.
• Authenticate medical records with secure login and manage discharge summaries and reports.
• Respond to emergency codes as per hospital policy and implement approved policies and clinical pathways.
• Direct and coordinate nurses, therapists, and residents in patient care and participate in quality improvement.

He should involve in continuous quality improvement activities of the department and hospital to achieve the goals of HMG.

Job Purpose / Objective

Senior Specialist Anesthesiologist is fully responsible to provide high standard of clinical practice and expertise in the assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients in the area of Anesthesia & assist the consultant. He should involve in continuous quality improvement activities of the department and hospital to achieve the goals of HMG.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

• Responsible for the medical/surgical care of the admitted patients in his/ her department or under his/ her consultant.
• Responsible for managing the assigned clinics (if asked by the management) as per the approved Rota by the Head of the Department and Medical Director.
• Responsible for initial assessment, requesting investigation, analyzing the test results, diagnosis, treatment, and reassessment as per the provided privileges and upon consulting his/ her consultant.
• Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness or disease as per the granted privileges, under the supervision of Consultant.Responsible for monitoring the patients' condition and progress in each shift and should inform his/ her consultant.
• Undertake daily independent rounds in each shift (at least, once during the shift and whenever called to see the patient, by staff or the patient’s complain) for all the admitted patients in the department and under his/ her consultant in any other department.
• Responsible to accompany the consultants in their rounds and assist in assigned surgical procedures.
• Document the patients complete medical record on time and also update the progress notes at the same time as per HMG Policy.
• Authenticate the medical records at initial entries and progress notes by logging in with own username and password in Patient Health Records.
• Perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures for which he/ she is specifically privileged according to his/ her qualification, training & experience.
• Responsible for documenting the Discharge Summaries and Medical Reports of department/ unit in Patient’s Health Records electronically.
• Responsible to attend all emergency codes of the hospital as per hospital policy.
• Responsible to implement all the approved policies and procedures, rules, regulations, protocols and guidelines/ clinical pathways that guide and support the provision of clinical services.
• Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, therapists, and residents in patient care.
• Responsible to be involved in the continuous quality improvement activities of his/ her department.
• Serve on Departmental / Hospital Committees as and when requested.
• Ensure that Islamic Values and Medical Ethics are respected and strictly observed.
• Maintain a high standard of professional care in accordance with the International / National Healthcare Standards.
• Obtain informed consent for all patients in accordance with hospital policy for the undertaking of any diagnostic procedure, operation, test or procedure.
• Provide reports and information as required by the Consultant/ Head of Department.
• Play an active role in the education of the patient and his/ her family on a healthy lifestyle. Contributes to awareness and education of the community, in general, on issues related to health.
• Provide orientation, bedside training and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees (interns, residents and fellows) as assigned.
• Participate in self-and others’ education, training and development as applicable and department’s educational activities and training programs of the department.
• Participate in, and lead person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
• Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
• Perform other applicable task and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

Requirements

Education/ Professional Qualification

• Graduate of Medical School, recognized by the Medical Council of the country of origin.
• Completion of appropriate internship and residency programs.
• Post-graduation qualifications in the specialty.

Experience

• At least Three (3) years of practice in his / her specialty after obtaining the higher degree in a Tertiary Care Hospital.

Professional Licensing / Certification / Training

• Membership, Fellowship and/or Board Certification in the respective specialty.
• Relevant licensure from the country of origin, acceptable to Saudi Commission for Health Specialty and Ministry of Health.
