Job Description

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Quality & Material SME (Architecture - Marble) to join our team!

Key Responsibilities (Design Stage)
  • Lead the review and approval of all marble and natural stone selections proposed during the design stages.
  • Verify marble quality based on:
    • Origin and quarry certifications
    • Grade and classification
    • Vein consistency and color uniformity
    • Technical performance (porosity, strength, water absorption, slip resistance, etc.)
    • Sustainability and durability criteria
  • Ensure all marble materials comply with PIF standards, luxury hospitality expectations, and relevant ASTM, EN, or ISO codes.
Design Coordination & Technical Compliance
  • Work with architects, interior designers, and consultants to ensure marble selections reflect the project’s aesthetic vision, functional requirements, and guest experience standards.
  • Validate the compatibility of marble with:
    • Adjacent finishes
    • Structural loads
    • Environmental conditions (interior vs. exterior)
    • Maintenance and lifecycle requirements
  • Ensure design packages correctly reflect marble specifications, patterns, cut layouts, edge profiles, and installation methods.
Marble Specifications & Documentation
  • Develop and maintain the Marble Specification Register covering type, source, finish, thickness, calibration requirements, sealing needs, and critical technical data.
  • Ensure all marble submittals during the design stage include:
    • Data sheets
    • Quarry certifications
    • Technical test reports
    • Sustainability declarations
    • Mock-up and sample boards
  • Verify consistency across drawings, BOQs, schedules, and specifications.
Mock-ups, Samples & Benchmark Standards
  • Lead the design-phase preparation of MARBLE MOCK-UP criteria (patterns, joints, tolerances).
  • Review marble sample boards and prototype layouts before construction-stage mock-ups.
  • Set the quality benchmark that must be achieved during installation.
Risk Assessment & Value Engineering
  • Identify early risks related to marble availability, color variability, supply chain constraints, or technical performance issues.
  • Recommend VE alternatives where beneficial, without compromising visual quality or luxury standards.
  • Provide risk mitigation strategies and design recommendations to the PMC and client.
Stakeholder Interface & Meetings
  • Host marble-focused design workshops with client, designers, and PMC technical teams.
  • Prepare marble-related quality reports, issue logs, and recommendation summaries for senior management.
  • Coordinate with procurement interface teams on prequalification requirements for marble suppliers and quarries.
Pre-Construction Readiness
  • Ensure all marble materials are fully approved before IFC release.
  • Validate that cutting lists, patterns, and installation details are clearly defined in design documentation.
  • Review and sign off on final design-stage marble packages for incorporation into IFC documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 12–15 years of experience, with at least 6 years specializing in marble and natural stone for ultra-luxury hospitality or high-end mixed-use projects.
  • Strong background in stone sourcing, stone performance testing, and international marble standards.
  • Proven experience in a PMC or design management environment.
  • Deep understanding of stone patterning, book-matching, vein-matching, cut optimization, and finish selection.
  • Familiarity with Saudi Building Codes and PIF materials compliance requirements.
  • High technical competency in reviewing marble shop drawings, stone layouts, and specifications.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and technical writing skills.
  • Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
Preferred Competencies
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a refined understanding of luxury aesthetics.
  • Strong ability to guide designers and resolve marble-related technical issues.
  • Proactive approach to design risks, material selection challenges, and supply limitations.
  • Ability to manage multiple design packages and maintain strict documentation control.
  • Experience with digital tools for material tracking, QA workflows, and design coordination (e.g., Aconex, Autodesk).
