Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • CCNA and Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) desirable.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in network administration or cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, configures, and deploys network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, SDN) for scalable, secure operations.
  • Maintains LAN/WAN/VPN and internet connectivity with high uptime.
  • Troubleshoots complex network issues and provides timely resolutions.
  • Develops and enforces network security protocols with cybersecurity teams.
  • Performs capacity planning, performance tuning, and upgrades.
  • Documents configurations, policies, inventories for audit readiness.
  • Coordinates with vendors and service providers to ensure SLA compliance.

Job description

Network Engineer designs, implements, and maintains the university’s network infrastructure to deliver secure, reliable, and efficient connectivity for academic, administrative, and research operations. The role monitors and optimizes network performance, resolves technical issues, supports network projects, collaborating with IT and security teams to enhance system scalability, integrity, and alignment with the university’s strategic objectives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs, configures, and deploys network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and SDN automation, to ensure scalable, secure, and efficient network operations.
  • Maintains and optimizes LAN, WAN, VPN, and internet connectivity, monitoring network performance and traffic to achieve 99.9% uptime and optimal data throughput
  • Troubleshoots complex network issues and provides timely resolutions, minimizing downtime and maintaining seamless service delivery.
  • Develops and enforces network security protocols, collaborates with cybersecurity teams, and implements access controls, safeguarding institutional data and IT assets.
  • Conducts capacity planning, performance tuning, and system upgrades, ensuring scalability and readiness for evolving technology demands.
  • Evaluates and recommends emerging networking technologies, hardware, and software, aligning innovations with the university’s digital transformation goals
  • Documents and maintain network configurations, policies, procedures, inventories, providing transparency, consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Coordinates and manages relationships with vendors, ISPs, and service providers, ensuring SLA compliance and effective technical support.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to IT staff and end users, building internal capability and improving service responsiveness.
  • Participates in disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring network restoration within established recovery time objectives (RTOs).
  • Ensures compliance with international standards, university IT policies, and regulatory frameworks, upholding integrity and operational accountability.
  • Monitors network usage, generates performance reports, and recommends improvements, supporting data-driven decision-making and efficiency.
  • Apply expertise in networking protocols, hardware configuration, and operating systems, ensuring reliable and high performance network services.
  • Performs all other duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.
  • Performs all other related duties as required or assigned by manager.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institute.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) in Secure Networking certifications. (Desirable).
  • Minimum of two (04) years of experience in network administration or cyber security or related fields.
