Job description

  • Conduct site assessments and surveys to determine irrigation requirements, soil characteristics, and water sources.
  • Develop irrigation plans and designs, including layout, pipe sizing, hydraulic calculations, and water distribution methods.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for irrigation systems, components, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate irrigation designs with overall project plans and requirements.
  • Select appropriate irrigation materials, including pipes, fittings, valves, pumps, controllers, and sensors, based on project specifications and budget constraints.
  • Procure materials from suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Supervise the installation, construction, and testing of irrigation systems to ensure compliance with design specifications, standards, and regulations.
  • Monitor contractor performance, resolve technical issues, and coordinate with project teams to address site-specific challenges.
  • Provide guidance and training to end-users, maintenance staff, and operators on irrigation system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop maintenance schedules, inspection procedures, and repair protocols to ensure optimal performance and longevity of irrigation systems.
  • Implement water management strategies, including scheduling, zoning, and precipitation monitoring, to optimize water use efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Integrate water conservation practices, such as drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and soil moisture sensors, into irrigation system designs.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, codes, and permits related to water use, drainage, and environmental protection.
  • Mitigate environmental impacts, such as soil erosion, runoff, and contamination, through proper irrigation design and management practices.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in irrigation engineering roles, with a focus on designing and managing irrigation systems.
  • Proficiency in irrigation design software and tools, such as AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation principles, techniques, and best practices for various applications, including agriculture, landscaping, and urban infrastructure.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders.
  • Commitment to sustainable water management practices, environmental stewardship, and resource conservation.
  • Professional certifications or licenses in irrigation engineering or related fields (e.g., Certified Irrigation Designer, Professional Engineer) would be advantageous.
  • Experience working on diverse projects, including agricultural, urban, and industrial applications, with a focus on water resource management and sustainability.
