Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Coating Inspector (Onshore) to supervise and inspect surface preparation, painting, coating, and corrosion protection activities at construction and fabrication sites. The role involves ensuring all coating works comply with project specifications, approved procedures, and international standards. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in surface preparation inspection, coating application monitoring, quality control, and documentation to ensure long-term corrosion protection and asset integrity in onshore projects.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection of surface preparation, blasting, painting, and coating application activities at onshore sites and fabrication yards.
  • Verify surface cleanliness, profile, environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) before coating application.
  • Inspect coating materials, paint systems, batch numbers, shelf life, and material storage conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with approved coating specifications, ITPs, and project requirements.
  • Monitor surface preparation activities such as abrasive blasting, mechanical cleaning, and power tool cleaning.
  • Inspect coating application methods including brush, roller, and spray application techniques.
  • Measure and verify Dry Film Thickness (DFT), Wet Film Thickness (WFT), and adhesion quality.
  • Conduct holiday testing (spark testing) and other coating integrity tests as required.
  • Review coating inspection reports, daily logs, material certificates, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as SSPC, NACE, ISO 12944, and project specifications.
  • Identify coating defects such as blistering, peeling, cracking, rusting, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC engineers, construction teams, subcontractors, and client representatives during inspections.
  • Ensure proper surface protection of piping, structural steel, tanks, and equipment during all project phases.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, coating reports, and documentation for project handover.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies, safety regulations, and environmental requirements during coating activities.
  • Support pre-inspection meetings, audits, and final coating acceptance activities.
Mandatory Requirements
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–7 years of experience in coating/painting inspection within onshore oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, industrial, or construction projects.
  • Certified Coating Inspector qualification such as NACE Level 1/2/3 or AMPP CIP Level 1/2/3 preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation methods and coating application techniques.
  • Experience in measuring DFT, WFT, dew point, humidity, and environmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of coating defects identification and repair procedures.
  • Experience in reviewing coating inspection reports, material data sheets, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Ability to interpret coating specifications, technical datasheets, and inspection procedures.
  • Strong awareness of HSE standards and safe coating practices.
