Business Affairs Executive, Business Affairs India

We are looking for a Business Affairs Executive to add to the Business Affairs team at Amazon Studios’ film and television group. This role will also support our services across all scripted and unscripted Series deals and Movies across Amazon Studios Originals which is the movies and television development and production arm of Amazon and shall work under the Head of Business Affairs India for Amazon Originals.

This business affairs executive will support above-the-line talent deals (i.e., writer, producer, director, cast, etc.), development deals (i.e., original scripts, book rights, format rights, etc.) and production company deals. Further, this candidate will support Amazon’s Legal Affairs team to finalize agreements, and to address production issues as they arise. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate and interact with agents, managers and outside attorneys and be able to efficiently communicate status and tradeoffs with other members of the Amazon Studios team including Creative, Production, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, and Legal, as well as Amazon executives outside of Amazon Studios.

Key job responsibilities

A comprehensive working knowledge of the India television & movie industry agreements, guild regulations, contract law and intellectual property rights (as applicable to the entertainment industry) is required, along with excellent drafting, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational and computer skills. Must be able to manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly, operate autonomously within corporate parameters, and remain cool and levelheaded in pressurized situations. A successful candidate is expected to be able to work collaboratively with colleagues in this department and across the studio, build strong internal client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives under time-sensitive conditions and generate client satisfaction through strategic thinking and risk analysis.

About the team

The Business Affairs team is an important arm of the Prime Video business. It is responsible for structuring and closing deals on an end to end basis. The team is required to collaborate 360 degrees with all internal and external stakeholders. This includes production houses, creators, above the line talent, agencies, etc.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of entertainment industry deal negotiation experience
  • 4+ years of studio, production company or television network experience
  • Experience with complex commercial/legal concepts and drafting, ability to quickly read and interpret legal terminology and reasoning
  • Experience in negotiating complex agreements with an understanding of legal terminology and reasoning
  • J.D.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working for content distributor, digital content service, or legal firm (legal training/ PQE desirable)
  • Experience structuring and negotiating terms for commercial content deals e.g. production commissions, existing content licences, talent, multi-title/output
  • Knowledge of music business models
