Job summary

Mercor is seeking a Bilingual Arabic STEM Expert (PhD) for AI Safety to write expert prompts in Arabic and help ensure responsible handling of dual-use information. This remote contract role requires 20+ hours per week and collaboration with AI research teams to improve model safety and guidance.

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in chemistry, biology, or a related field, native or near-native Arabic, and business-level English, with experience in laboratory and computational techniques.

Position: Bilingual Arabic STEM Expert (PhD) — AI Safety
Type: Contract
Compensation: $38–$42/hour
Location: Remote
Commitment: 20+ hours/week

Role Responsibilities

• Write expert-level prompts in Arabic across specialized scientific topics.
• Evaluate and annotate model responses for scientific accuracy, helpfulness, and appropriate handling of sensitive content.
• Apply structured guidelines to classify prompts and conversations.
• Work independently and asynchronously to improve AI model safety.
• Collaborate with AI research teams to ensure the responsible handling of dual-use information.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field.
• Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and business-level written English.
• Deep familiarity with modern laboratory and computational techniques.
• Sound judgment around scientific safety and the responsible handling of dual-use information.

Preferred

• Based in Saudi Arabia or the wider MENA region.
• Expertise in radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, or related fields.
• Depth in specific subfields like organic synthesis, molecular biology, or genetics.
• Experience with chemical safety, biosafety, or hazardous-materials handling.
• Experience reviewing or grading technical content.
