Job summary

ADES - Advanced Energy Systems is seeking a Marine Operations Supervisor to oversee offshore activities on our rigs in Saudi Arabia. You will supervise rig moves, lifting operations, and stability calculations while prioritising safety and compliance with regulations.

You will lead a team, coordinate maintenance, and ensure all certifications and records are up to date. Strong English, mathematical skills, and a COE are required for this demanding role.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Marine Engineering or equivalent and a valid Maritime Academy COC.
  • At least 6 years of relevant offshore experience.
  • Proficient in English and strong mathematical skills; capable of stability calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates rig move prep and stability calculations.

Job Description

Supervises & coordinates all marine activities onboard including safety, environment and firefighting equipment, lifting operations, rig moves & jacking system operation, stability & ballast controls, helicopter operations, hull & tanks maintenance, and emergency response roles. Oversees care and certification of all marine equipment, ensuring the rig complies with applicable rules, codes, regulations, and industry best practices while prioritising personnel, environmental and equipment safety.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and arranges for the preparation of Rig Move, stability calculations for jacking, floating, and preloading, ensuring compliance with Rig Move preparation checklists.
  • Observes weather forecasts for rig move windows including preload hours.
  • Reviews soil condition reports to anticipate expected penetration at location.
  • Ensures jacking systems & motors have planned maintenance completed and are ready for operation.
  • Secures drilling package and cantilever per the rig’s operation manual.
  • Secures cranes and loose items in accordance with seamanship practices and maintains watertight doors/hatches during rig moves.
  • Ensures towing equipment is maintained, certified and ready; highlights spare equipment if not available.
  • Mooring winches are maintained and ready for operation.
  • Arranges and participates in rig move meetings.
  • Maintains records of documents and move history to ensure accurate records.
  • Performs watertight integrity checks.
Rig Move & Related Activities
  • Supervises and arranges for the preparation of Rig Move, stability calculations for jacking, floating, and preloading, ensuring compliance with Rig Move preparation checklists.

Stability
  • Assures daily accurate rig loading, leg reactions, supplies of fuel/water, and centers of gravity stay within design limits.
  • Calculates daily load criteria to ensure installation meets operational and stability requirements.
  • Ensures deck loading complies with rig design and operation manual.
Lifting Operations
  • Supervises and directs loading/unloading and movement of all cargo, including complex lifting operations and personnel transfers.
  • Directs deck crew to move/load/unload critical items based on load distribution calculations.
Drilling / Work-over Operations
  • Liaises with drilling crew to ensure safe and smooth operation; assigns crew members to drilling tasks as required.
Management Of Major Emergencies
  • Participates in the Rig’s Emergency Response Team as detailed in the Emergency Plan.
  • Ensures all personnel are trained on applicable emergency procedures.
  • Conducts and records Well Control and general safety drills per Company and regulatory requirements.
Inspections & Certifications
  • Prepares and participates in inspections and surveys per Class, statutory and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains unit’s statutory certifications and records per Class, Flag, STCW and other applicable regulations.
Materials & Equipment
  • Monitors preventive maintenance for marine, helideck, navigation, firefighting, lifesaving equipment.
  • Ensures timely execution of maintenance and certifies lifting equipment.
  • Liaises with OIM and Maintenance Department to incorporate maintenance/repairs and audit recommendations.
  • Prepares hull and tank annual painting plans and reviews completion quarterly.
Helicopter Operations
  • Ensures helicopter operations comply with aviation authorities, maintains valid helideck certification.
Housekeeping
  • Ensures work areas are clean, orderly, and hazard-free during and after tasks.
  • Directs disposal of debris per company hazardous material and waste management policies.
People Management & Development
  • Provides clear instructions on duties, responsibilities, and safety precautions.
  • Mentors, develops, and trains team to ensure safe, effective operations.
  • Identifies skill and career advancement opportunities, supporting professional growth.
  • Ensures team receives necessary training through on‑job and classroom sessions, and safety drills.
  • Evaluates team performance, provides fair feedback, and drives performance management processes.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
  • BSc in Marine Engineering or equivalent Maritime Academy Certificate of Competency (COC) from Maritime Academy.
  • At least 6 years of related experience, preferably on offshore installations owned or operated by the Company.
Skills/Competencies Required
  • Intermediate level English reading & writing.
  • Advanced mathematical skills.
  • Stability calculations.
  • Situation awareness, self‑motivation, teamwork, time management, and work management.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional climbing (stairs, ladders) and walking.
  • Ability to work day/night shifts.
Certifications
  • As per ADES Training Matrix.
  • A valid Certificate of Competency from Maritime Academy is required for self‑propelled units.
