Job summary

Tuwaiq Casting & Forging is seeking a skilled 3D Modeling Engineer to lead the Design Engineering team in producing 3D models, drawings, and design outputs for production and tooling.

The role supervises the 2D Draftsman/CAD and ERP/MES/DMS Officer and requires strong CAD/3D software skills and GD&T proficiency for large components.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years in 3D modeling, CAD design and drafting in casting/ forging.
  • Experience supervising or leading a design team.
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks, ANSYS and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of GD&T for large-scale components.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MES/DMS design/document management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the 2D Draftsman/CAD and ERP/MES/DMS Officer to ensure timely design outputs.
  • Prepare 3D models and detail drawings based on design inputs and standards.
  • Apply GD&T, tolerances, and revision control to designs.
  • Coordinate with process engineers to ensure manufacturability.
  • Maintain drawing registers and the design database.
  • Review customer drawings and 3D models for technical clarity.
  • Attend meetings with production and engineering teams to communicate work instructions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the design process.

Job description

Tuwaiq Casting & Forging is seeking a skilled and experienced 3D Modeling Engineer to lead the Design Engineering team. Reporting to the Head of Design Engineering, this role is responsible for creating and controlling 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and technical design outputs required for production, tooling, and engineering support. The Engineer will supervise the 2D Draftsman/CAD and ERP/MES/DMS Officer, ensuring accurate, timely, and well‑documented design deliverables aligned with company standards and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise and direct the work of the 2D Draftsman/CAD and ERP/MES/DMS Officer to ensure quality and timely delivery of design outputs.
  • Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance and mentoring to design team members.
  • Coordinate design activities with the Head of Design Engineering and interface with Process Engineering and Product Management teams.
Technical Operations
  • Prepare 3D models and detail drawings based on design inputs and applicable standards.
  • Apply correct tolerances, allowances, GD&T, and revision control procedures.
  • Support pattern, casting, forging, and machining requirements within design models.
  • Coordinate with process engineers to ensure manufacturability of designs.
  • Maintain the drawing register and design database.
  • Revise models and drawings based on approved change requests.
  • Support customer and internal technical clarifications.
  • Conduct technical review of customer drawings and 3D models.
  • Create 2D and 3D designs for patterns and simulation purposes using 3D modeling software.
  • Attend regular meetings with production teams, job managers, and engineers to communicate Work Instructions (WI) and Manufacturing Process Sheets (MPS).
  • Troubleshoot and drive continuous improvement of the design process.
Quality
  • Adhere to EHS requirements applicable to the design office.
  • Support the acquisition of required certifications and qualifications.
Process Optimization
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity, and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Implement new techniques, technologies, or equipment upgrades to improve design and machining processes.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of all design outputs.
  • Oversee the ERP/MES/DMS Officer to ensure accurate maintenance of design data, drawing registers, and document control within the company's ERP, MES, and DMS systems.
  • Provide technical support for product documentation creation across factory sites and review produced documentation.
Sales Technical Support
  • Support the review of manufacturing feasibility for items targeted for sales estimation.
  • Assist in reviewing and designing production processes for quoted products to meet customer technical requirements.
  • Fulfil any other responsibilities as required by the company.
Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in 3D modeling, CAD design, and technical drafting within a casting, forging, or heavy manufacturing environment, including prior experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
  • Strong understanding of casting, forging, machining, and heat treatment operations and their design implications.
  • Demonstrated experience with large‑part design involving components of 20 tons and above.
Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of 3D and 2D software including SolidWorks, ANSYS, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for large‑scale components.
  • Familiarity with ERP, MES, and DMS systems for design and document management.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in industrial environments.
  • Awareness of American Petroleum Institute (API) standards and their application to casting and forging design is advantageous.
