The Senior Software Engineer owns the application layer across company. This includes the design, development, integration, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of internally developed applications, together with technical ownership of how vendor-purchased applications integrate with the organization’s digital ecosystem. The role operates within an AI-first engineering model in which applications are developed using AI-assisted and agentic coding tools. The candidate must be able to guide agentic development workflows and independently review, validate, secure, test, maintain, and extend applications and code produced partially or fully by AI coding agents. The role works closely with the Data Engineer, Data Analyst, vendors, business stakeholders, and end users to deliver secure, reliable, maintainable, and well-adopted software solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Application Architecture & Software Engineering
- Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, responsive business applications using modern software engineering practices.
- Develop front-end experiences using React, Next.js, TypeScript, or comparable modern frameworks, and back-end services using Node.js / TypeScript, .NET, or an equivalent modern stack.
- Own the full application lifecycle, from discovery and architecture through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, support, enhancement, and retirement.
- Define reusable architecture patterns, shared components, coding standards, and development conventions across the application estate.
- Design applications for maintainability, performance, accessibility, responsive use, and clear separation of concerns.
Custom Application Ownership, Maintenance & User Enablement
- Act as the primary technical owner for all custom-made and internally developed applications across company
- Maintain production applications through enhancements, defect resolution, dependency upgrades, performance optimization, security remediation, and ongoing technical support.
- Monitor application availability, errors, performance, usage, and security signals, and resolve issues within agreed support priorities.
- Provide end-user onboarding, demonstrations, and training for software created internally, both at golive and as applications evolve.
- Create and maintain user guides, training materials, release notes, support procedures, technical documentation, and knowledge-base content.
- Gather user feedback, assess adoption, and translate recurring support needs into product improvements.
Enterprise & Vendor-Purchased Applications
- Take technical ownership of vendor-purchased applications used by the company, with particular responsibility for how they connect to internal applications, data, identity, workflows, and reporting.
- Assess vendor application capabilities, APIs, data structures, authentication methods, extensibility, and technical constraints before and during implementation.
- Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to configure integrations, resolve technical issues, coordinate upgrades, and evaluate the impact of vendor changes on the wider application estate.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for vendor applications, interfaces, dependencies, ownership, support paths, and recovery procedures.
- Ensure vendor solutions align with company’s architecture, security, access-control, data-residency, and maintainability requirements.
Systems Integration & APIs
- Design, develop, test, and support integrations between internally developed applications, vendor systems, enterprise platforms, cloud services, databases, and APIs.
- Develop secure, documented, reusable REST APIs, business services, background processes, and data exchange mechanisms.
- Implement robust authentication, authorization, validation, pagination, error handling, retries, logging, monitoring, and schema-change management.
- Define reusable integration patterns that reduce duplication and avoid unmanaged point-to-point dependencies.
- Work with the Data Engineer on API contracts, data flows, integration ownership, and governed interfaces across Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Microsoft 365, and third-party systems.
- Integrate company’s source and enterprise systems, including Salesforce, Premier, Oracle Primavera Cloud, SharePoint, Azure SQL, and other vendor applications as required.
AI-Assisted & Agentic Software Engineering
- Use AI coding assistants and agentic coding tools as a core part of application design, development, refactoring, testing, documentation, and maintenance
- Direct and supervise AI coding agents through clear requirements, architecture constraints, coding standards, acceptance criteria, and iterative review.
- Independently review applications and code produced partially or fully by AI for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, test coverage, and architectural alignment.
- Debug, refactor, strengthen, and extend AI-generated applications rather than accepting generated output without engineering review.
- Establish and enforce quality controls for agentic development, including source control, human review, automated testing, dependency checks, secure coding, controlled deployment, and rollback procedures.
- Evaluate new agentic development approaches and adopt them where they improve delivery without compromising accountability, security, or long-term supportability.
Cloud, DevOps & Application Operations
- Deploy and operate applications on Azure using appropriate services such as Azure App Service, Static Web Apps, Functions, Container Apps, Storage, Key Vault, and Application Insights.
- Work in Git using disciplined branching, pull requests, code review, versioning, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement environment management, secure configuration, secrets management, release controls, monitoring, and rollback procedures.
- Use infrastructure as code where appropriate to make environments reproducible and recoverable.
- Produce architecture diagrams, API specifications, deployment documentation, support runbooks, and disaster-recovery procedures for every production application.
Security, Quality & Technical Governance
- Build automated unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, and security testing into the development lifecycle.
- Apply secure coding practices, input validation, dependency management, audit logging, least-privilege access, and protection of sensitive information.
- Implement authentication and authorization using Microsoft Entra ID, including role-based access controls.
- Work within company’s data-residency and client-data constraints, keeping data in-tenant and in-region by default.
- Conduct code reviews and maintain engineering quality gates before production release, including for AI-generated code.
Collaboration, Delivery & Adoption
- Run discovery and requirements workshops with department heads and end users, translating business processes into clear technical solutions.
- Work closely with the Data Engineer and Senior Data Analyst / Visualizer to deliver connected applications, governed data, and embedded analytics.
- Embed Power BI content and develop native in-application reports, charts, data grids, and analytical views where appropriate.
- Contribute to the modernization of existing internal applications, including the transition from low-code solutions to maintainable software products where justified.
- Break requirements into manageable work items, communicate delivery risks early, and provide transparent progress to stakeholders.
- Share software engineering practices across the Innovation team, including architecture, integration, Git, testing, CI/CD, security, application support, and responsible AI-assisted development
