The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center focuses on Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design, and Strategic Technology Planning. It plays a crucial role in Huawei's Digital Power business, designing and developing power converters and control systems for applications like PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage, Data Centers, Electric Vehicles, and Embedded Power Supply.

Principle/Senior Engineer in Battery System Engineering (m/f/d)
Your mission
- Provide insights into core technologies for next-generation battery energy storage system designs, including novel cooling strategies, advanced power electronics integration, and energy management system interfaces.
- Contribute to the development of advanced battery management systems with innovative monitoring and state estimation methods, supporting the elaboration of specifications.
- Offer insights into application-specific requirements of stationary battery energy storage systems, particularly in European markets such as residential, district/micro-grids, C&I, and utility-scale applications.
- Provide insights on hybrid energy storage systems and market developments aligned with energy transition needs.
- Model and simulate battery energy storage systems, considering electrical, thermal behavior, aging mechanisms, and safety concepts.
- Model and simulate hybrid energy storage systems for high power and long-duration storage applications.
- Balance accuracy and computational complexity in battery models for system simulation, stress analysis, and algorithm development.
- Use system simulation for performance evaluation of battery packs and entire BESS under various operating conditions and states.
- Investigate fault scenarios and their impacts on BESS, such as increased resistance or internal shorts.
- Assess the impact of load profiles on BESS lifetime in different applications.
- Support the development of collaborations with European research institutions and maintain long-term relationships.
- Collaborate closely with Huawei Digital Power R&D and product teams.
Your areas of expertise
- PhD in electrical engineering, control science, electrochemistry, physics, or related fields.
- Extensive experience in battery energy storage, understanding stationary applications and challenges.
- Published scientific papers in battery modeling, application studies, or management systems.
- Experience leading project teams and managing projects.
- Strong relationships with top European research groups.
- Willingness to travel within Europe and China.
- Fluent in English and German; knowledge of Chinese and other European languages is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and adaptability to multicultural environments.
