About the Position:

Serves as an Accounting Technician supporting all medical billing functions for the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and its area of responsibility.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

  1. Correct errors for reimbursement.
  2. Apply correct transaction codes to accounts.
  3. Submit medical claims to insurance companies.
  4. Review insurance responses to medical claims.
  5. Research denied claims for denials management.
  6. Use automated systems to review, submit, or post payments for each account.
  7. Correspond with Budget Office, Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS), Defense Health Agency (DHA) Resource Management, and DHA Uniform Business Office to resolve errors.
  8. Review and process unresolved accounts.
  9. Provide internal and external customer service to stakeholders.
  10. Use software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint to perform daily duties.
  11. Perform a broad range of administrative functions within the medical treatment facility.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • One-year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in DoD Instruction 1315.19.

  • This is a Financial Management Level 1 Certified position; incumbent must comply with all DoD certification requirements.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement, subject to annual vaccination in accordance with DHA Procedural Instruction 6025.34.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

To qualify, you must meet education or experience requirements. Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer work, and service programs. Your resume must clearly describe relevant experience; transcripts are required if qualifying through education. Additional info about transcripts is here.

For GS-05

Specialized Experience: One year of experience maintaining accounting documents, using automated billing systems to retrieve data, and reconciling transactions. This is typical of work at the GS-04 level.

OR

Four years of education above high school level from an accredited institution.

OR

Combination of education and experience, totaling at least 100% of requirements.

For GS-06

Specialized Experience: One year of experience processing claims, using automated systems to retrieve data, and resolving discrepancies through research or review. This is typical of work at the GS-05 level.

Note: Education cannot substitute experience for GS-06 qualification.
