Job Overview:

Victim Advocates are needed to perform victim advocacy services and Emergency Placement Care (EPC) coordination in support of the prevention and education of domestic violence and juvenile problematic sexual behavior under the Army Family Advocacy Program, including 24/7 victim advocacy response and EPC coordination.

This program operates through Army Community Services (ACS).

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school in social work, psychology, marriage, family, and child counseling, counseling or behavioral science, education, community health or public health. Victim Advocacy certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years providing comprehensive assistance and support to victims of domestic abuse, including crisis intervention, safety assessment and planning, legal rights, and outreach services.

Minimum of one year of experience working with a military Family Support Center or civilian social service agency serving military Families.

Working knowledge of family violence dynamics, safety planning, risk assessments, local resources, and relevant laws. Ability to communicate effectively, develop trusting relationships, and work with diverse backgrounds.

Ability to intervene in crises, exercise judgment, and protect client welfare. Must work independently, assess risks, and develop safety plans within guidelines.

Ability to conduct briefings, work with military and civilian personnel, and educate installation staff about domestic abuse responses.

Must possess a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license and have transportation. Physical and mental fitness to perform duties, including transporting and setting up displays, is required.

Computer literacy for documentation, reporting, and data entry is necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call response, providing victim advocacy services.
  • Make initial contact with victims within 20 minutes when on call.
  • Assess risks, provide crisis intervention, develop safety plans, and refer to support services such as transportation, legal aid, shelter, and medical care.
  • Maintain documentation, develop SOPs, and submit monthly activity reports.
  • Maintain resource files and develop informational materials in English and Spanish.
  • Provide training to military personnel, families, and community members on domestic abuse prevention and response.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ongoing EPC training for providers.
  • Provide EPC placements for families in crisis 24/7 as requested.
