PhD Student (f/m/d) for analysis of AC/DC power systems

About the Role

As a PhD Student, you will conduct research on advanced power generation and transmission systems, working closely with experienced consultants within an EU Horizon Project. Your focus will be on the computation and analysis of modern AC/DC power systems with advanced power electronics controllers. Collaboration with research institutions and industry partners will be essential to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges and to enhance Siemens Energy’s products and services.

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct research and develop new applications and tools for electric power generation, transmission, and control systems.
  2. Develop mathematical models for transmission and generation system components using simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, and PSCAD.
  3. Design and develop automation and software tools to improve the accuracy and efficiency of power system studies.
  4. Create AI and ML-based applications for planning and analyzing electric power systems and controllers.
  5. Collaborate with internal experts and research institutions to co-innovate solutions for emerging challenges in power systems.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in electrical power engineering with excellent academic record and research experience.
  2. Strong background in power systems and control engineering.
  3. Proficiency in power system simulation programs (PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC) and programming languages (Matlab, Python, Fortran).
  4. Experience in control algorithms for power systems and power electronics.
  5. Knowledge of machine learning techniques, statistics, and probability.
  6. Fluent in English; German language skills are a plus.
