Who we are

Marvel Fusion, founded in 2019 and based in Munich, is a technology pioneer in the field of safe, clean, and reliable power generation. With the aim of solving one of the biggest problems of humanity, we are developing a completely new type of fusion energy technology that dramatically increases the probability of fusion and builds on recent advances in laser and nanoscience.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

The impact you will make

As a key contributor to the forefront of high-power laser fusion science, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of laser technology. Your expertise in designing, calculating, and developing ultra-high intensity laser systems will drive groundbreaking innovations that redefine energy generation. By leading critical projects and collaborating with top-tier multidisciplinary teams, your work will directly influence the development of cutting-edge fusion concepts. You will not only push the boundaries of scientific discovery but also forge connections with leading experts worldwide, making a lasting impact on the future of sustainable energy.

This is your opportunity to take on challenging, hands-on projects that demand innovation, precision, and teamwork—ideal for those eager to grow within a dynamic, multinational environment.

Your responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and commission high-peak-power laser systems, focusing on next-generation power amplifier projects
  • Conduct power amplifier system simulations and calculations to enhance laser performance and system efficiency
  • Optimize the broadband short pulse amplification process, ensuring efficient performance in large aperture (>5cm²) laser gain media and achieving >100 J output energy
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) and other advanced technologies into the system design
  • Utilize common laser diagnostic and nonlinear techniques to measure and analyze ultrafast pulses
  • Develop and enforce laser operation procedures, safety protocols, and ensure compliance with safety standards

What you bring

  • You have completed a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, or possess equivalent experience with comparable breadth and depth
  • 5+ years of postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience in experimental studies of ultrafast laser physics involving high-energy or high-average power lasers, or similar systems
  • Experience in designing, developing, and commissioning high-peak-power laser systems, with a strong foundation in laser science, technology, and optics
  • Expertise in short pulse amplification in large aperture laser gain media, with compressed sub-ps pulse durations, such as glass laser systems or other equivalent broadband systems, or high energy narrowband CPA systems with multi-Joule output energy
  • Knowledge and experience in measuring and analyzing ultrafast pulses using SPIDER/FROG or similar techniques, dynamic range scanning cross-correlators, and functional optimization of key laser components
  • Passion for Laser Technology and hands-on work in a laboratory
  • Curiosity, growth mindset and openness to new ways of doing things
  • A healthy amount of flexibility, adaptability and can-do attitude
  • You demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • You are willing to reside in the greater Munich area

What sets you apart

  • Experience with beam shaping, e.g. beam homogenization, and beam performance optimization at high fluences, and large beam sizes is a plus
  • Deep understanding of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) management, temporal contrast of short pulse lasers and nonlinear optical interactions of short laser pulses inside amplification stages
  • Strong background in power amplifier system calculation and beam simulation (ZEMAX or similar), laser operation procedures, and safety protocols, with additional experience in diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) as a plus. Simulation of thermal management or average power systems is a plus

What we offer

  • An opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of our planet by making clean, safe and abundant energy possible
  • Flexible working, location- and hours-wise
  • A human-centered company culture with super nice and supportive colleagues
  • A great sense of community through team events and fun in and outside the office
  • A modern office with a lot of collaborative space close to Theresienwiese in Munich
  • Highly competitive compensation and benefits package
