Job Description:

As part of the SMS group, a leading technology supplier and plant builder in the metals industry with 15,000 employees worldwide, we serve our customers in the steel industry and beyond.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, focusing on innovative approaches such as the EASyMelt concept, which involves plasma torch technology developed by Paul Wurth.

Position:

PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications using tools like OpenFOAM.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma via statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches with simulation software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve simulation models.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations in software like OpenFOAM.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German skills are advantageous.
