Overview

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. The Senior Systems Administration Support (UNIX / Linux OS) is responsible for the administration and operational support of servers and applications in a UNIX / Linux environment. The candidate must be able to coordinate, troubleshoot, and oversee system backups, hardware installation, software installation, and system upgrades. The role involves solving complex technology problems, providing solutions, and mentoring internal and external customers to enhance daily operational efficiency. Maintaining professional conduct, discipline, and effective communication within a diverse workforce are essential.

Responsibilities

  1. Installing, monitoring, and upgrading UNIX system software on servers.
  2. Creating and maintaining UNIX user accounts and access management systems.
  3. Developing and enforcing standardized backup, recovery, and security policies.
  4. Applying patches and upgrades as necessary.
  5. Resolving hardware/software platform issues in complex, multi-layered environments.
  6. Analyzing the impact of software changes across functional units.
  7. Maintaining space utilization statistics and forecasting future requirements.
  8. Establishing and recording UNIX/Linux administrator best practices.
  9. Implementing and managing systems to proactively monitor infrastructure.
  10. Maintaining responsibility for servers and network connections.
  11. Recommending hardware and software upgrades based on operational needs.
  12. Managing multiple information technologies, including operating systems, server virtualization, cloud infrastructure, automation, and middleware, with expertise in technologies such as RedHat/CentOS Linux, Solaris, VMWare, and X86 hardware.

Basic office equipment.

Working Environment

Normal office setting. Support may be required during non-traditional hours, including nights or weekends.

Physical Activities

Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs unassisted.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications: U.S. Citizen with an active Secret security clearance. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Business Administration, or Mathematics plus three years of specialized experience; or an Associate’s degree plus seven years of experience; or a major certification plus seven years of experience; or 11 years of experience.
Certifications: IAT III certifications such as CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, GCIH, or CCSP. Specialized certifications like UNIX Certified Administrator, RHCE, RHCSA, or RHCA are also required, with the stipulation that the same certification cannot serve as both baseline and specialized certifications.
Experience: At least four years of experience maintaining UNIX or RedHat systems on server-based OS, two years with HP-UX, Solaris, or RedHat Linux applications, and two years with U.S. military command and control or LAN/WAN communication systems.

Skills / Technologies

Proficiency in Microsoft, HP-UX, Solaris, UNIX systems.
