Data Engineer - Platform (all genders)

We are looking for a Data Engineer (full-time) to join our Data Engineering team in Berlin.

As our newest Data Engineer in the Data Platform team, your mission at Babbel will be to change the face of language learning one automation at a time. Working alongside your teammates in a fast-paced environment, you'll collaborate and explore different areas such as Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Site Reliability, InfoSec, and more to deliver innovations directly to our Babbel learners.

Responsibilities:

• Shape and develop our data platform
• Secure our data and infrastructure
• Ensure data flows efficiently (streaming and batch) with well-tested, high-performance solutions
• Automate processes wherever possible
• Implement monitoring and alerting systems
• Participate in knowledge sharing sessions

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Python and PySpark, with a desire to improve our codebase
• Experience with AWS services and cloud architectures
• Experience designing ETL/streaming pipelines and managing data lakehouses (e.g., Databricks) and warehouses (e.g., Snowflake)
• Familiarity with Terraform and Github Actions
• Experience with testing, logging, monitoring, and alerting; passion for these areas is a plus
• Fluent in written and spoken English

Nice to have:

• Experience scheduling complex data workflows with Airflow or DBT
• Interest in promoting a DevOps mindset
• Experience with Machine Learning or building ML-driven data products
