Job Description:

As a Senior Preconstruction Manager, you will be part of the Design and Construction (D&C) team within Amazon Global Engineering Services (GESS), shaping the future of the construction industry. We focus on driving innovative, standardized, and scalable solutions to deliver high-quality buildings and capacity to meet customer needs, prioritizing safety, people, and sustainability.

The role offers opportunities to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures, with approximately 30% travel within Europe.

Key job responsibilities

1. Manage complex, cross-functional industrial projects from site selection through design, permitting, and contract execution, coordinating with design teams and stakeholders.
2. Control project scope, drive timely decisions, clear blockers, and escalate issues as needed.
3. Communicate effectively, weigh risks, influence outcomes, and oversee professional service providers.
4. Perform pricing reviews, negotiate costs, estimate budgets, manage due diligence, and track schedules.
5. Supervise safety program implementation and ensure high standards of accountability.
6. Negotiate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with demonstrable experience in project management within construction or related disciplines.
• Experience managing projects from design to operation, including negotiating contracts.
• Experience with packaging processing/logistics facilities or similar.
• Fluent in German and English.
• Willingness to travel frequently across Europe.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, or business administration.
• Experience across multiple construction disciplines.
• Proven ability in planning, design review, and project control of new and existing facilities.
• Experience with industrial automation, robotics, or similar technologies.
• Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication skills across various audiences.
• Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
• Participation in Amazon's new FC launches is a plus.
• Additional language skills such as French, Polish, or Arabic are preferred.

Each day, you will oversee Amazon's construction projects, lead cross-functional teams, negotiate contracts, and ensure project success. Your role involves site validation, risk analysis, design management, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with zoning and building codes. Effective communication and leadership are essential for success in this role.
