Project Engineering Manager*in (m/f/d) HVDC with fluent German

Job Description Summary

For Grid Solutions, Offshore HVDC represents a key differentiating technology and a central focus for the business, particularly in Europe where Transmission System Operators have very ambitious renewable energy targets. In that context and for Germany, Grid Solutions is partnering with TenneT, which plans to invest more than $30B by 2030 in deploying new HVDC converter stations to bring Offshore Wind energy into Germany and the Netherlands.

In this context, Grid Solutions is looking for a Project Engineering Manager who will oversee the technical coordination and management of technical topics of the entire On Shore or Off Shore scope of a 2GW HVDC project in the Netherlands or Germany. These are large, complex multi-year EPC projects (contract value > $1B), part of a portfolio of several HVDC projects for TenneT.

Job Description

You will ensure the technical coordination of all associated design activities for the On Shore (or Off Shore) scope, ensure timely delivery of design documents, maintain the planned design budget, implement the design change process, supervise and coordinate all engineering tasks required to execute the project, whether in-house or by suppliers/subcontractors.

The Project Engineering Manager will be accountable for the proper performance of the design in terms of engineering cost, deadlines, and quality on the On Shore or Off Shore scope.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for issuing and consolidating the provisional drawing list of the project or work package, integrating submission dates.
• Conduct relevant co-engineering sessions with other disciplines, main partners, or key suppliers as appropriate, and lead work package design reviews.
• Lead and coordinate design teams.
• Manage design workload plan and request resource arbitration.
• Ensure compliance with Customer requirements.
• Represent customer interests in design decisions.
• Prepare or review technical specifications and supplier documents to enable procurement of materials and detailed plant design.
• Check the effectiveness of design against contract requirements within the project budget and seek overall cost optimization during all design phases, especially during basic design.
• Deploy engineering tools related to your work package (CAD, PDM/DMS) as per strategy.
• Integrate EHS requirements based on project strategy and conduct HAZID sessions at different project phases.
• Implement Key Indicators on engineering processes and support project reporting.
• Implement design freeze and EHS in design.

Desired Profile and Experience

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering.
• Deep experience in industry, including HVDC station equipment and design.
• Experience in project management delivery.
• Successful management of multi-disciplinary teams with multiple interfaces and products from several countries.
• Fluent in German and English.
• Strong influencing and relationship-building skills.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills and experience.
• Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate complex messages succinctly.
• Ownership & accountability, judgment, decision-making, ability to influence & inspire teams, create vision and strategy, and passion for the role.
