Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

A Field Service Engineer 3 will install, support, troubleshoot, repair, and otherwise maintain all Intuitive products in their assigned territory, ensuring all service agreements and warranty obligations are fulfilled and exceeding customer expectations. Additionally, a Field Service Engineer 3 with experience will mentor junior engineers, perform regional administrative tasks, and participate in new product introductions and process improvement initiatives. This role requires expertise in electro-mechanical systems, specialized training, and excellent customer service, communication, and time management skills.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair products, and coordinate system installations within territory.
  • Complete administrative duties including spare parts inventory, field activity reports, and expense reports.
  • Maintain company-issued equipment and assets.
  • Support teams at trade shows, via phone support, and in achieving company objectives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects, provide feedback, and support new product launches.
  • Complete all required training and professional development courses.
  • Manage territory by responding to customer needs, maintaining system configurations, and supporting training and events.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support service contract renewals.
  • Act as a Medical Device Consultant in Austria and Germany after appropriate training, providing guidance on device handling.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • A university or college degree in science, technical engineering, or equivalent, or 5 years of relevant work experience; or 3 years experience with a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience.
  • Strong communication skills in local language(s) and English.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Technical knowledge of Intuitive Surgical products, with hands-on experience.
  • Teaching and presentation skills.
  • Administrative and record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of Operating Room protocols (preferred).
  • Proven customer relationship skills with surgeons and hospital staff (preferred).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical systems independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50-70%, depending on region.
