Offer Description

Within the Machine Learning Group at the University of Greifswald’s Institute of Data Science in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, a full-time Research Assistant position is available for an earliest possible appointment for a limited period of 36 months. There is an option to extend the contract. Payment will be according to pay group 13 TV‑L Wissenschaft. The position is suitable for part-time employment.

The focus is on developing novel Graph Neural Network (GNN) algorithms to address challenges in dynamics, oversmoothing, or expressivity, with applications in predicting molecule properties, optimizing PCB schematics, or solving power grid problems.

  • Conduct research and teaching services
  • Develop algorithms in Graph Neural Networks
  • Perform simulations to evaluate algorithms
  • Evaluate algorithms using statistical methods
  • Publish results in journals and at conferences
  • Participate in organizational and representative tasks

Tasks will support the preparation of a doctorate, habilitation, or equivalent qualification.

Job requirements

  • University degree (master's or equivalent) in computer science, physics, mathematics, or related field with good grades
  • Strong programming skills
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning and deep learning
  • Knowledge of Python or willingness to learn
  • Independent and goal-oriented work style
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Doctorate in computer science (if working towards habilitation)
  • Knowledge of discrete mathematics and graph theory
  • Experience with deep learning libraries like PyTorch or Keras
  • Knowledge of Git or similar version control systems
