The security engineering team's first responsibility is to respond to emerging threats and secure the open source ecosystem for community and enterprise use. Your work will involve addressing potential CVEs and vulnerabilities alongside the lifecycle of Canonical products such as Ubuntu. You will engage with our community and customers, and coordinate efforts across multiple engineering teams and projects.
An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. Developing engineering talent, representing your team and product technically, and fostering collaboration are critical to success.
What you will do in this role
- Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels
- Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation
- Drive the development of new security engineering projects
- Collaborate with upstream open source projects on vulnerability lifecycle handling
- Coach, mentor, and support career development
- Monitor team health indicators and implement disciplined processes
- Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
- Promote best engineering and organizational practices
- Plan and track progress on goals and projects
- Participate in the security engineering leadership team, collaborating with other leaders
What we are looking for in you
- Exceptional academic record from high school and university or an alternative compelling background
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience
- Drive and a history of exceeding expectations
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Passion for developing people and a proven track record
- Organizational skills to ensure timely, high-quality results
- Professional interaction with colleagues, partners, and community
- Solid software development background, including support and maintenance
- Mastery in any programming language (e.g., Go, Java, C, Python)
- Knowledge and passion for software and application security

- Ability to build trust and relationships
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks each for company events
