The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried near Munich is one of the world's leading research institutions in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology and biomedical research. The Career Development Service at the MPIB provides coordinated comprehensive and professional support for PhD students, postdocs and our faculty. We offer interdisciplinary training opportunities, a range of information, advice and support to aid the researchers at the MPIB at each stage of their career.
To strengthen our successful Career Development Service and coordination team, we seek an enthusiastic, self-motivated person (m/f/d) with excellent organization- and communication skills as scientific coordinator (m/f/d) (maternity cover) as soon as possible.
Your profile
- You hold a PhD degree in the area of life sciences and have already gained some international experience in either education, research or research administration.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS office, internet, social media databases, content management systems) is essential.
- You are solution-oriented and an excellent communicator (m/w/d) with people at all levels and enjoy working proactively and independently in a competitive international and highly interactive environment.
- Moreover, you are passionate about both, science and education.
- Previous experience with coordination of graduate training, postdoc activities and training, science- and database management, Open Campus platforms and/or social network communication is considered advantageous.
- A good command of spoken and written German and English is required.
Your responsibilities will include
- Maintenance of the online application and data management system as well as of the websites of the Career Development Service.
- Participation in coordination of the application procedures including selection of students and data management.
- Organisation of lectures, seminars, symposia, retreats and other events for PhD students and postdocs;
- Planning, organisation and coordination of the PhD and Postdoc training programs.
- Networking including newsletter production, alumni work and maintenance of our social media platforms.
- Cooperate with other Institute Services and with other academic institutions in the region to support the above tasks.

Selection process
In order to identify the most promising candidates (m/f/d), the Career Development Team participate in a multistep selection procedure as outlined below.
First round of selection
Complete applications will be reviewed after the application deadline and a first selection will be made. During the first review process, selected candidates (m/f/d) will be invited to an online interview to further discuss their application. The online interviews are scheduled for 2, 3 and 5 June 2025.
Second round of selection
Candidates (m/f/d) who have successfully passed the first round will be invited to an individual interview at the MPI of Biochemistry in Martinsried. The selected candidates (m/f/d) will be asked to prepare a short presentation (5-10 min) on a specific topic for the on-site interview. These on-site interviews are scheduled for 16 and 18 June 2025.
Final decision
The successful candidate (m/f/d) will receive an offer after the second interview and by 27 June 2025. The preffered start date is 1 August or 1 September 2025 at the latest.
