Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (f/m/x)

Join to apply for the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (f/m/x) role at Greenlyte Carbon Technologies.

Are you ready to save the planet? We will help prevent a climate crisis by freeing the world from fossil fuels. Our breakthrough direct air capture technology captures CO2 from the atmosphere and produces hydrogen in parallel.

The clock is ticking. What are you waiting for?

How You'll Contribute

You'll play a crucial role in our Hardware Engineering team, bringing your deep experience in mechanical design to implement groundbreaking products and good design practices to how we streamline, assemble, and test these products.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design of all systems in our plant, mentoring and guiding a team of engineers.
  • Select process components such as sensors, valves, pumps, and vessels according to requirements and translate these into physical products.
  • Manage mechanical design projects from initial ideation to factory commissioning and hand-off to manufacturing or test engineering.
  • Rapidly iterate on system designs and integrations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Create component and assembly drawings, ensuring all customer requirements are met.
  • Lead design reviews internally and with external suppliers and customers.
  • Ensure project delivery timelines from early design through production, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Exemplify technical excellence and accountability for your work.

First 12 Months in the Role

Months 0-3: Focus on developing design methods for critical components like Electrolysis and Absorption Tower, selecting and integrating components based on process requirements, and collaborating with suppliers.

Months 3-6: Take technical responsibility for commercial projects aimed at industrialization, including CE certification, plant scale-up studies, customer and investor engagement, leading design-to-manufacturing projects, and mentoring junior designers.

Months 6-12: Define future plant iterations through modular design, support series production, and proactively address potential issues to meet company milestones.

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable qualification (e.g., diploma, B.Sc., M.Sc.)
  • +5 years of experience

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience in plant engineering or special machinery construction, especially with liquid mediums.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to solving problems and implementing requirements.
  • Experience with Pressure Equipment Directive (DGRL, EN 13445, ASME), Operational Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), and Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge in analysis and simulation tools (material selection, FMEA, FEA, CFD).
  • Fluent in English; German skills are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work on-site, with relocation support available.

What We Offer

  • 30 days of vacation plus public holidays.
  • Access to the latest tools and technologies.
  • A culture of mentorship and open communication, with opportunities for your ideas to influence company direction.

This role requires physical presence within commuting distance to Essen or willingness to relocate, which we support.
