Job Description:

Paul Wurth S.A. is an international engineering company based in Luxembourg, with 500 highly motivated employees. We are a global leader in ironmaking technologies, focusing on innovation and sustainability. As part of the SMS group, we serve the metals industry worldwide.

We are actively working on CO2 reduction in ironmaking, including the EASyMelt project using plasma torches. We are seeking a PhD – Plasma Torch Simulation Engineer (m/f/d) to design and simulate plasma torches for industrial applications.

  • Run OpenFOAM Solver simulations for various scenarios.
  • Estimate thermodynamic and transport properties of plasma using statistical mechanics.
  • Develop numerical models for plasma torches using simulation software such as OpenFOAM or Code_saturne.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate and improve models.
  • Qualifications include a PhD or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods and plasma physics.
  • Experience with numerical simulations in software like OpenFOAM.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ or Python.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English; French or German is a plus.
